for the slum islands- i would encourage you not to connect them by bridge, and instead include a lot of tiny boats that the inhabitants use to get to the mainland. those islands would be an incredibly dangerous place to live and would be constantly flooded so making bridges to them would be a bit of a waste of resources.

I think the idea of slums and farms in the river delta is a good one. What I'd do is have most of the buildings on stilts to try and avoid the flooding as much as possible. Something similar to the makoko region of lagos, Nigeria. Also love the city so far. It's incredible!

Amazing build! As for the ship, I think a fleet of big ships would be more visually striking and more realistic than just one GIANT ship, they could be copied and pasted with slight variations, plus, maybe one of the little islands in the shallow delta would be dedicated to maintenance buildings for the ships, anchors and so on!

Farms on the delta I'd recommend anything between and around rice, sugar or legumes. Possibly barley? but that's dependant on flooding and the fact that it's a salt water delta. I'd almost imagine you could so some sugar and rice farms on the delta and some houses on higher raised areas for fishermen, bargemen, etc.

A really cool thing that adds to a world when trying to make it feel more alive is adding ruins or evidence of past civilizations. Maybe there was a battle and ships sank so you can add wrecks under the water, or some settlements further away from fast defense were never rebuilt. If you do floodplanes you could also add the leftovers of where structures might have been before a flood or along the coast as if erosion or a storm sank areas.

Great job Viggo! The city is starting getting shape! I don’t believe it’s a good idea to built farms on delta, an alternative to that I would recommend is to build maybe some really small dock, for the smallfolk really worn down with little boats and lot of overgrown plants. An open space, without buildings is for sure a great option because it creates space and adds to the city’s depth. About the slums, it’s an awesome idea to have some around! I would recommend to build them on the beach side outside the fortress’s wall to fill up the space and make it more alive. Of course you can add some slum houses to the islands but it doesn’t make sense for all the poor people to live there because the are really at the edge where they can’t find cheap resources and the transportation is a quite tricky by boat. I Hope my ideas add up, and help you plan this project ! Keep on the amazing work 🙏💪❤

Uh oh! Viggo forgot another room, and also a place for the guards to use the toilet! I’d assume they probably wouldn’t want to use the common folks restrooms seeing as they are guards and all. Good idea with the slums, maybe somewhere you could put a Salt farm? Due to the intense heat perhaps salt water from the tides can fill the small basins and the intense sun and heat evaporates the water leaving salt? I believe the Romans did it around the Mediterranean so it’s a small culture difference but would look awesome Great video as always Viggo!

Not sure if you can use this but imperial China had entire neighborhoods for military offices, engineering workshops and special study offices plus the homes of higher ranking military officials. Also all areas leading into the military district should have barbican and draw bridge at least, to create a clear separation.

Amongst the farms some small ruins would look really cool. Almost as if there had been settlements on the river delta long ago in Sangra Qur’s history that have since been reclaimed by sea level rise or repeated flooding. I think it would make the city feel even more ancient and make it feel like it has a lot of history

for the swampy area, im thinking that in such a city such prime real estate wouldnt go undeveloped. im imagining there is a large construction site as sea walls are being built and the land is in the process of being raised above sea level.

Very cool! Thank you for continuing to inspire with your buildings. About the river delta, I already wrote about this idea, somewhere at the beginning of the year - to make there the fragments of a giant statue, like the Colossus of Rhodes, as a reference to the much earlier history of this place. A foot legs and a few large pieces of stone will suffice. I don't think this would contradict your idea of the slums, and would even create an interesting contrast.
@williamludwick772 ай бұрын
Another great build as always. The city is shaping up quite nice, and the idea for some small fields would be good, although I wouldn't do too much. I think what you described would be good. 7:30 speaking of that lore, where is that temple (Sarkaroth you built awhile back) located in relationship to this city?

for the little islands some farms and crop patches would look cool, connected by little trapdoor walkways acessed by boats from the mainland, where things such as papayrus reeds and herbs could grow for use in the city but not crops like wheat as it would be impractical the slums should go on the land in front of the fort beside the pier

it would be cool to have those raised bridges crossing over the cultivated lowlands to the urban area. it would also reduce the affects of flooding on foot travel. i do agree that utilizing those fertile areas within the city would be very important- the egyptians actually built their urban infrastructure and houses on the edge of the fertile zone and the desert so that they could maximize productivity from the river floodplains.
