Dilmer, I just wanted to suggest a video which is all comparisons between unity, godot, unreal for VR. Unity is definitely the most user friendly and has the most features. I've actually been testing out godot recently though and think it has everything I need for my project, and is MIT, but I also don't want to hold my brain around several game engines, and I've already got my head around Bevy, which doesn't really have VR yet. What are all the considerations for each deployment method? We have webXR, app store, direct on device (side load). Side loading will be more common in the future, so it's an important consideration. For each of those, and for all 3 engines, doing a breakdown. Because for one deployment, one might be a better answer. Is Unity free basically if you're making less than 200k from it? What about the entity you're delivering a solution to if you're a consultant - do they need a yearly license? Licensing is the big question with Unity - would love a deep dive on their latest pricing options.

Your mixed reality (Quest 3) tutorials are extremely helpful! However, there were parts in the video during the creation and coding process that I wish had been slowed down to a normal pace without all the fast time-lapse edits. It made it hard to follow along in areas that I had never done before. As a beginner, it would greatly benefit us to see you work through each step in Unity and coding without a time-lapse so we can pick up on the little details and techniques you're using along the way. Aside from that, please keep up the great work!

Thanks a lot for such great and detailed feedback. I did a poll about this specific topic in Twitter / X and just like you said, most people find that fast forwarding coding sessions on my videos is not as useful, which I why I will be changing this on new videos even if they get to be a lot longer. Thanks again and I appreciate your time!

You rocked this one out the ball park! I'm excited to implement these features this week. Great job Dilmer! Would love more content with MR and Quest 3 and what about multiplayer support via photon or can it be done via local LAN? I'm guessing a laptop is needed to host a Unity instance to relay packages to any headsets, perhaps? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!
@dilmerv4 ай бұрын
Hey Heriberto thanks a lot for your feedback man, this is very good info. As far as multiplayer, yes I am working on 2 new videos specifically with multiplayer, both videos will be available next month. Photon and NGO both support LAN networking, you could even test it all within one computer with multiple instances of Unity running.

@@dilmerv I'll keep an eye out for that multilayer video. I have 10 headsets I use in schools hence my interest. I think we can all agree that multi is the way to go for MR in education.

Wonderful tutorial, very grateful to have it! Around 5:03 it appears you have linked the model of the Meta Quest 3 headset with your actual headset. How did that work? Thank you!
@dilmerv4 ай бұрын
Hey Jeffrey thanks for your time. It may look like the model is linked to my physical Meta Quest 3 but in reality is just the MetaQuest3 in front of the CameraRig with an offset on the Z axis. That part of the tutorial is mainly to show you that we can render by dragging the most fundamental Building Block which is the "Camera Rig".

How did you initialize a room scan with MRUK? Or did it just rely on you doing that independently before launching your app?
@dilmerv5 ай бұрын
Is so easy nowadays with these components, all you do is add the “Find Spawn Positions” building block which has a dependency on Room Mesh. That will make it work out of the box, also the room mesh component in the hierarchy has a “Mesh Volume” just make sure the mesh renderer on it is turned on. Great question !
@glennjones95764 ай бұрын
I think you skipped over two things in your video. In the BasicCameraRigBB, scene how is the model linked to the headset? Also you need to delete the default camera?
@dilmerv4 ай бұрын
Hey great questions. When you drag and drop a Camera Rig building block then the system automatically disables the main camera. You could leave it there or delete it. For the model, it is not linked to the headset, instead it was just placed in front of the camera and offset a bit on the Z-Axis. Thanks and let me know if you have further questions.
@glennjones95764 ай бұрын
@@dilmerv Hi thanks for the note about disabling the camera. Re: Model being linked to the camera, your video shows the headset moving when you moved your head? kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3mwpYl7jZ6CZrs - Maybe that is you just viewing it ... yea I got confused.

I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING! ...I specifically sorted youtube results to "This Month" because unity is changing ever other week it seems like so alllllll the videos posted do NOT work! This one is 8 days old at the time of viewing and it STILL doesnt work...WTH!

Welcome to development my friend 😉 honestly nothing will work the first, second, or third time, that’s just unfortunately how it is and it goes beyond just Unity. This happens to me frequently, don’t give up! my recommendation is to add logging to troubleshoot and learn by going through the process. I would also suggest to clone the complete project from github.com/dilmerv/MetaXRTableTopGames and do a comparison. Thanks for your time and if you still have problems you can also visit my discord at discord.gg/PfKycAPv where I am sure people there can help you out (including myself) and you can ask questions.

Thanks for your feedback man, I am posting a new MR video with a step by step, it is coming out Tuesday. Do you think fast forwarding broke your flow? Would you rather see line by line explanations?
@zibitappert2 ай бұрын
@@dilmerv hi! Great to hear from you. And yes, my flow was broken for 2 reasons, one was the fast forward in coding and then fast forward in adjusting properties of the elements in the project. Mind you, I am not a super experienced developer, I am ok with Unity, but unfortunately have 0 coding experience. So the video kinda made me feel that I would never learn proper app development if I have zero idea about coding. I envy those who can do that, big respect. Yes, I love developing (or trying to) for Quest 3 and explanation of a proper usage of the Meta blocks/tools would be sooo good to have on KZbin (instead of copy pasting the samples, but rather explanation of each tool). Maybe even a really short video for each tool if this makes sense. I think these are super powerful yet I feel super stupid not being able to properly understand all their settings 😀 I'm tired of copy pasting screenshots into chatGPT and asking to tell me what I'm supposed to know, lol 😀 Looking forward to your next video. You're doing a great job!

Loaded my Quest 2 with the Data forwarding server apk sucessfully but unable to connect from the simulator. Device list empty in device dropdown under the Data forwarding section. Suggestions on what to check?
@dilmerv4 ай бұрын
Yes I know exactly why, I had the same issues. Normally Unity installs Android NDK modules / platform tools within the Unity install location, well the sim can’t find it. The command that it runs behind the scenes to communicate with your device is: .\adb which is part of the Android dev tools. What I did was to install the Android Dev tools which includes that command at a global path in my windows machine, then just make sure the command is added to your path within system variables. I am sure there are other ways to fix this but that worked well.

@dilmerv4 ай бұрын
I got the exact same issue. Make sure you have adb command in your path (under system variables) basically try to run adb.exe from your command line and make sure it can be executed from anywhere, if so then restart the sim and try again.
