Did you think about hardiplank board and batten?

It's what we went with for our modern farmhouse design. That and our foundation is 5 ft off the ground due to flood zone so bottom part is surrounded with brick and we are limewashing it instead of painting (fraction of the cost)

I was originally considering it, but Jeff really wanted brick. It was the only thing he was super-insistent on with the home, so I wanted him to have what he wanted! Brick ultimately ended up being a great choice for us in terms of energy savings (we live in NC where it's hot!) and it being mostly maintenance-free for the long term.
