Shawn you inspire me. i am alone after 42 years of marriage. The death of my wife left me lonely and at a loss as to how to carry on. Your videos show me how to get on with my life. So now i try to stay busy so as to dwell on the past, or live there either. Thank you for the videos you make.

My friend that has never met me, I have watched your videos from the 1st log laid down and feel like I know you. I love you and your dog. I hope not to burden you, but I have recently suffered an emotional event that has broken my heart, and wish to share it. I am a 70 year old Viet Nam veteran, with PTSD, I live alone, my two children are grown and have there own lives so I rarely see them. I have had a service dog for a long time now. but 2 days ago my dog jumped the fence and went to the park alone and on her way back got hit by a car and killed. I feel it was my fault, she was a pure bred blood hound 3 months from her 6th birthday. She was a high energy dog needing lots of exercise, on the days I walked her she never tried jumping the fence, but I didn't have the energy that day to walk her so she went alone and died as a result. I tried to fix the fence so she couldn't get over it, but she still managed to get loose. Before I got her I had a pure bred English bulldog who died 3 month shy of his 14th birthday from kidney failure. I didn't want to get another bulldog because I was afraid I would place unfair expectations on it, so I got Sweetpea because I have always loved Bloodhounds, but had no idea at the time what I was in for. The 1st year that I had her every time she got near me she would draw blood, (at my age my skin tears so easily) not being mean but just being a puppy, 15 inches tall at the shoulder, all legs and ears, and never spotted moving. She was 5 weeks old then, but she stole my heart. I depended on her for comfort, protection, and a never ending source of joy. So now I am in the unenviable position of having to find another companion, I am praying that G-D will send the perfect dog for me. I am about to start this search, I want to get another bulldog because it will be more suited to my energy levels. Wish me luck in this effort, and please keep the videos coming. I have enjoyed your adventure greatly, and wait for each one with anticipation. Thank you for what you do, you will never know what good you do for your viewers.

Greg that is the heart break of being a dog lover. Im 64 and have had so many long living dogs. Everyone of them was a heart breaker when they past. I have one now that is a Boston Terrier rescue about 14 and is going down hill fast. I take a few months break and go get another. I have had all types of breeds. I now can only handle smaller dogs. I prefer terriers. They are always ready to go. Had a boxer once that I hated cause I thought he was stupid. But when he got to 3 he changed and was the most loving smart thing. So explore other breeds and please adopt. My best to you sir.

Man, I remember framing houses in weather like that 40 years ago. I'm paying for all that out door work now. Knees and hands are shot. No way I could do it now at 60. I built a pergola with my son a few years ago. I thought I could teach him s few things about building. It took us like a week. He asked how long it would have taken me in my heyday with a helper. Two days! He went back to college and got a science degree. I taught him something alright, just not what I was thinking!

In addition to framing, I worked as a brick Mason, natural and cultured stone Mason and concrete laborer. I also did commercial and residential roofing and I was a pretty good automobile mechanic. At 40, I went back to school and got a technical degree in CAD and finished my career up as a project manager for an architect. I drew houses but my bread and butter was field audits. Lots and lots of measuring! I lived the job. In or out of the office. The thing that finished me? Motor vehicle accident! So now I deal with that plus all the sore bones from work. If all my physical jobs, Mason laborer was the hardest. I was pretty sure that job was going to kill me and in fact, I watched another laborer die on the next house humping bricks! Heart attack! He was dead before the bricks hit the dirt. I think I quit within the week. The point is, without an education, I did whatever it took to feed my family. I worked two jobs, took care of the kids while my wife went to college. When she graduated, she backed me up so I could go to school and even then I worked in a tool store selling tools and assembling cement mixers on weekends and nights. Then we both set upon making sure both our kids have college degrees. Now they do. That hard work pays off. Today? We're in Germany on vacation with our whole family. See you guys in a couple weeks!

So funny that you talk about the trees and a walnut ... I’m inspired but live in a city. I’m cutting large branches off my walnut and making spoons with it, got a chiminea and saved cut small branches so I can sit outside and have a “campfire” legally. Happy I can Faux an outdoor life anyway. It’s making me happy! Thank you Shawn for all the videos!

Dearest Shawn, i am houckt (spelling) on your videos. Like i have said before, i am not crazy about snow. I feel so great because when i was 4 or 5 yrs young, my brothers and sisters much older then me build a cabin. We were living in a small village in Gaspee. I remembered about following them and they just had fun with me. I got stuck when I jumped from the roof in the snow and they were saying that they would leave me stuck. (Funny bunch) They were so much older and they sure enjoyed staying in the winter they had great fun. They even had a stove and cooked bean and pork as well. Your doing the same they did, but u are alone with your beautiful dog and want to run after his toy. You have been really awaken my childhood with your video of your amazing cabin. I feel like a child again at 66 yrs young.........many thanks for your video............i am in love with your building career......O will retired soon with my husband and will love it....................

@@Coppretta Well, except that dogs are bred by humans....wolves, coyotes and dingoes aren't very friendly. If god loves humans so much, maybe he can stop children starving, wars, rapes, murders, abuse, floods, fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, disease, etc. When I love someone I don't try to kill them. But then again, I'm real...not a made up babysitter.
