In this video, I utilize the Kreg Jig 720 Pro (find links below) and create my own custom wood base for this dresser! The ‪@diywife‬ inspired the idea for the addition of this custom wooden base for this dresser. I was so excited to finally try my hand at building the base and I love the way it turned out! It took some trial and error but in the end, it was worth it! I hope this video helps you realize that you CAN try new things to and that struggle is going to come but if we can push through it - there is beauty on the other side. Thanks for watching!
Thanks to Kreg for sponsoring this video.

Looks GREAT!! The oak is a really dense wood so if you try to line the boards up flush to the outside of the 2x2 you have to pre drill your holes or it will pop everytime. If you notice DIY wife normal sets her 1x3 back about 1/4" centering it so the screws are going into the center of the 2x2. If you used select pine it more then likely would have been fine since pine is softer so more forgiving. I love select pine and oak is over $3.40 a ft for 1x3 here right now and no one has oak 2x2 in 100 miles. I recently did a video parking my muscle car on top of a 1x3 piece of select pine to demonstrate its strength. Keep up the amazing work and congratulations again on hitting over 100,000k subs 👏 👍🏻 ❤❤

I am learning to use this type of pocket drill hole machine as well and I appreciate your honesty with the tiny mishap you made rather than just editing it out and pretending. It never happened. This is the only way we are going to learn and I appreciate that. You did an awesome job. I have a very similar dresser in my stash and you gave me a great idea to add a base to it.. I knew it needed something different and girl you delivered!!!

Lauren, this piece turned out amazing !! I love the base that you put on the bottom and that you left it natural, which I love better than it being painted. Other than adding height to this dresser, it made it look entirely different. Thanks for the instructions on creating the base. Hi Lauren! If you pre-drill holes with a drill bit, the screws won’t split the wood. ☺️ Hey, was wondering if you were going to be putting out any “What I earned” (“this month” or “this year”) videos?
@savardmike
@savardmike 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Hard wood fibers are denser than pine or other soft woods. When that screw goes in, if there's no room and/or the wood is not thick enough, you have a high probability that it will split. Pre-drilling will ensure there is no splitting. You could have started to drill in with your screw just to make the spot and then remove it. Unclamp, drill in an inch with a smaller drill bit size than your screw. This leaves enough room for the threads on your screw to bite into the wood. Takes a bit more time, but you're sure its not going to split that way.

I love what you do and I hope one day to be able to make bases for some of the dressers I paint. Maybe it's just me, but on this piece it looks like an add on, it doesn't flow with the dresser. Maybe because this time you painted the top as well instead of leaving it natural wood like the base. Anyway for this one it just feels like you should paint the base and then it seems like it'll flow with the dresser.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included kzbin.infoUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

Hi! Loved this tutorial! If I were to outsource and have someone build and install a base for me (for a dresser) what do you think that would cost? Materials plus labor….what would be a fair price to pay? Just a ball park figure for a dresser roughly the size of the one in this video. Thank you!
