Well done... keep in mind. Those HVAC filters ate designed to "draw" air through on the other side of the fan. Not push through from behind. Many booths the air flow is the opposite of what you did. Instead of pushing air through. They air from the booth. Exhaust the air vice intake... you have to have both but the fan is on the exhaust side... HOWEVER, it looks good. You can't "over build " a paint booth. I have sprayed in under built booths. You have to go in spray and get out so you can breathe fresh air and not kill brain cells and walk around with a paint high... not to be able to see and not have so much paint in the air it messes up your paint job. Make sure you wet down the floor before you start also. Keeps the dust down and clean up easier. Definitely worth the cost of building a proper booth . Especially from a health standpoint.

I built my own semi downdraft booth to paint my truck a couple years ago. I built 20 4x8 pannels out of 2x2 lumber and rapped them all with plastic. The intent was to make it bolt together. It worked great. In my case I built a huge box that mounted to ceiling of my shop with three…yes three house furnace squirrel fan blower motors blowing air into the box and the entire bottom of the box was proper paint booth intake filters in a 8x10 frame that made up half of the ceiling of my booth. Did the same as you and put lights on the outside of the clear plastic on top and sides. The doors to the booth which lined up with my garage door were frames with outbound paint filters and I tunnelled it so the fumes would exit the op door and not get Back into shop. Had to paint when outside temp was only 32 degrees. Used six four tube fluorescent light units and it still was not bright enough really to see what I was painting properly. I do end up painting three cars in this booth before it got taken down. The next one will be built outside using the frame of a portable garage and clear plastic with filters on both ends and the same fans. Painting in the summer and sunlight through the plastic will make it really easy to see what I am doing and it will also be bigger then what I can build inside my shop.

Looks good! As others have said, I would switch the positive pressure to a negative pressure. If you make the fans exhaust instead of supply you will have a better stream line when trying to exhaust the clearcoat specifically. I purchased a few TPC Global industrial exhaust fans for around 100$ each that move serious air. Use pre filter material in front of the intake fans to reduce small particles from entering your booth. Last tip, call a local paint supplier like Sherwin Williams and ask if they have paint booth filter rolls. Found everything I needed locally and I live in Montana lol. I had no idea they would have the more industrial equipment but they did. Worth the phone call. Great content and thanks for sharing!

I was just remembering thirty years ago going through an asbestos abatement course we set up air tight booths. Point being 3M made spray adhesive that was designed for plastic sheeting. As I recall it even worked on wet plastic. Made an air tight joint where you needed them. Used it to make showers also so it had terrific adhesion. Doing abatement we set up positive pressure containment areas where we were working. Might be useful. McMaster Carr or Graingers should have it if not many other places. Wasn't inordinately expensive compared to regular contact adhesive.

Thanks for the video. You could't stop surprising me by your effective solutions of a complicated problems. Time and time again you showed that any problem could be solved with a small money but clean thinking and robust hands. Do you think to place filter on the weak fan not after but before it. I belive it could improve the amout of ariflow from it.

I’m not sure if this is an issue, but fire safety, sources of ignition with the fan motors, etc. ??
@Soederlund
@Soederlund 2 жыл бұрын
You should definitely switch positions of the two "filter" walls and change the direction of the fans so the fans are pulling the air through the booth. Pushing air with a fan is not the most effective way for a fan to work when there are resistance barriers like filters in the way of the flow.
@DionisBajrami
@DionisBajrami 2 жыл бұрын
itll suck air and dust from the cracks on the plastic and lift it in the air
@Soederlund
@Soederlund 2 жыл бұрын
@@DionisBajrami If that becomes an issue he could use the weaker fan as a push-fan to lower the underpressure to a suitable level. As I understood it from his explanation earlier, the greatest problem he experienced was spray mist gathering in the air. That will be prevented by only having a constant controlled airflow in 1 direction. When you push air into a non-sealed room as I consider this to be, then you creates a one inlet and many outlets system. This doesn't makes the airflow go into 1 direction. On the other hand, if you creates the airflow with underpressure you creates just that. Airflow in 1 direction but maybe from many inlets. That depends on how much underpressure you apply.

I think he is doing it this way because I don’t think the fans are rated to work in a flammable environment. If he used them as extractor fans, flammable gas/liquids would be passing through the fan, possibly causing a fire.

Maybe if you buy a large exhaust fan to suck the air out, same cross flow concept. My booth is like yours, but I really want to suck the air through and not push the air through. Thoughts on that?
