Very similar to my build. I actually used 20-foot extension ladders for the frame. I got an insulation company to come in and fill the barrels with expansion foam.

Always a good idea to STAIN the wood over the water. (sarcasm) and the deck boards should have been staggered for way more strength. This would be an utter disaster in a one foot chop. Great for a pond or small lake though. The main point is you can get out on the water and have a blast, which is very important for the soul.
@user-jm7ou9kk7n5 жыл бұрын
@ 2:30 they are only six feet long as is. You think it would b necessary to stagger? for rougher waters that is?? what i would be concerned about is the barrels laying ong ways creating a ton more drage . Do's that make sense?

Hey, what steel did you use for the frame? What thickness and size? Thank you so much.
@trevorobest63725 жыл бұрын
I think they could have used smaller steel, or even aluminum if it was cheaper, would yield better payload. Each barrel supports about 400 lbs, so you have to figure the weight of the steel, plus the decking,plus your furniture and whatever else you wanton board then your guests. I would also have used marine or green/treated plywood. But nice project. Still cheaper than buying a craft.

Need to make a 2nd part of the video on making the party barge propeller powered instead of towed by a jet ski...what happens if the jet ski dies in water in the middle of the lake or swamp where alligators are.. What then!!!! Not even that, not everyone has a jet ski.
@michaelanderson18595 жыл бұрын

We always at the lake with about 20 ppl and there are always about 6 boats and a few skis, so we always have a way to tow the barge...however I do have an electic trolling motor which runs off a deep cycle 12v battery, incase we dont want a boat to tow us, and that works fine too.

@brianthelion7776 жыл бұрын
we used 4 ton, nylon, heavy duty ratchet straps plus marine timber to hold the barrels in place. the weight of the frame also holds them in place so the straps were more to keep them aligned until the frame was placed on the water. if the straps do rot or fall off the barrels are all still held in place by the weight of the frame as well as the timber that keeps them aligned. but the straps are 10mm thick heavy duty nylon, seeing that the lake we use is fresh water with a moderate pH level, the straps will only start to deteriorate in about 10 years...by then we've set the whole thing on fire.

@brianthelion7776 жыл бұрын
Josex Citialin yes it's steel. Here in SA we call it channel iron, the size of the channels are 1500mm by 250mm by 2mm thickness. We used what was left over from an old ski ramp.
@grancito26 жыл бұрын
You need a new tape measure, looks more like 150mmX50mm and thicker than 2mm, more like 6mm.

You guys do understand shit happens, it a home made barge taken out on open water not to mention alcohol was also consumed on said trip.. No one has life jackets or flotation devices. Again shit happens things goes wrong.. normally you would test drive the barge a few times to make sure your DIY ing skills is up to scratch.. It a fair question, it just the 2 of you who are crying.. Safety first.
