Here is my thoughts on this job. First, Mrs. Meyer are you happy with the job that you have completed? If yes, then who cares what other people think. Secondly, how many people out there actually take a task such as this upon themselves to do? My final point is this, you took a task upon yourself to do and finished it, you took the initiative and that alone is praise worthy enough. It isn't the critics that count it is those in the trenches that matter. Enjoy your accomplishment!!

I agree with 11th child studios your comment wasn't necessary what was the purpose? What exactly do they convey to the new OWNER during closing, title and deed that's what. And the owner IS responsible for the property taxes. So LEGALLY you are the home owner either way and are held responsible for anything that happens on your property. Just pointing out the FACTS.

Hello everyone. I actually own a Lawncare and Landscaping business, and what this lady has done here, is pretty close to exactly what we do one our patio installations. One tip I'd like to leave you all with, is when you put in your rock for your base, if you check your local rental store, the have what is called a plate compacter. It's a gas powered machine that presses down and compacts what ever you drive it over. It's well worth the rental fee

the ground here doesn't drain that well, so in order to keep the pavers from buckling during the freeze and thaw cycles, we needed to put some sort of drainage in. I would say if we had a sort of sandy loam that just laying them in would work without the sand, but where we live it's farm country with a lot of organics in the soil.
@loribragg29472 жыл бұрын
I agree, and I've done it. My husband and I put in a large paver patio at the back of the house years ago. The pavers were dropped off in the front driveway and I had to move every single one of them myself from the front yard to the back with a wheelbarrow over the course of three days. I calculated I moved roughly two tons! 😂 My husband was busy preparing the work site, leveling, and then laying the pavers. We got it all done just in time--as soon as we finished it poured rain for two days. What an experience! It looked great though, and that was our first time tackling that particular type of project.

I did my own patio. This was the initial video I watched which encouraged me, a 47 year old woman to do it myself. The only step that I think would have helped them with leveling, which I found on This Old House was to use two different grades of sand. The first grade is called step 1 sand and is red and very rocky by pavingstone .com. That level really balanced the space between the small rocks and the finer sand and gives it great support, you'll also need less bags of fine sand. I put a good layer between the rocks and fine sand (my hole was 7 inches deep. I tamped each layer, rocks, then level one sand, then level two sand. Tamping is super important. Spend the $25 on a tamper, the difference with trying to pack it down with a shovel is night and day. My area was 2 x 20 and the first day I loaded the cart by myself and dragged the bags back. After digging the hole, I was tired, I had the kid at the store load my cart and van and then paid a neighbor kid to carry them to the back. Best money I ever spent. I recommend buying the two different grades of sand. The support that the red rocky sand makes it much more level and sturdy.

@snackpack32849 жыл бұрын
just for future, dont have to tamp the soil. just need no lose dirt clumps. then after u have added gravel and tamped it add sand. stop adding sand inch from the level you want it, compact the sand, and put metal poles every 4 feet. for every 10 feet, you want 1/2inch high on one end of pole, and level with the pole next to it. (you do this so that water runs off the pavers..) now add the sand inbetween the poles, take a 5ft board and run it over the poles.. smooth as butta. good job!
@billt72839 жыл бұрын
+snack pack the running over the poles is called screeting. For people who didn't understand this.....he means, after you tamp the gravel.......lay down 3/4"or 1/2" pvc piping next to each other.......dump sand in between, and use a board to run on top of pvc so it creates level sand base. Move PVC pipes as u go alomg, and fill in the pvc slots by hand/etc.

In Arizona I would suggest using that landscaping fabric after the gravel and before the sand so you can keep those knarly weeds from coming up. Peace!
@epicru1n1578 жыл бұрын
+Porter Rockwell That will create drainage problems. You want to use polymeric sand to fill the voids. You can buy it by the bag.
@ld123112317 жыл бұрын
Polymeric sand will have issues after about 4-5 years and will have to be removed completely to repair it - that is HARD work. In contrast a sand base with sand fill, takes about 40 minutes for a patio this size which needs to be addressed each year.

Age just a number and doesn’t matter how you get it done or what style you do it. Do what works for you. What a inspiration I got no excuse. Now!

looks very good Bobbi, downside is you are doing the hard work while I am drinking a beer 2100 miles from home... Will give you a PM in a couple of days because you asked me where I am in a comment but I couldn't find that message back. Cheers and all the best! Enjoy the Patio!

Dear Bobbi, after investing all the time to watch your struggle it was a bit disappointing when the fire pit just showed up.
