BUILDING A POLY TUNNEL - Greenhouse

The Weedy Garden

Күн бұрын

Building the poly tunnel/greenhouse was the first project I did in The Weedy Garden three years ago. On this video I build another one, so YOU can see how it`s done... and this time I filmed it!
I hope it motivates you to build something yourself. It`s easy and plant friendly.
All the measurements and another more "instructional video" will be posted for my supportive community on Patreon and KZbin members tomorrow.

I love the simplicity of this design. I've recently finished a greenhouse using 2" poly pipe for the arches. It's 6m x 4m, so a bit bigger. But I tend to over engineer things and procrastinate, so it certainly wasn't built in a day. Mine is built on a bit of a slope with a swale dam at the top (more to divert excess water than to trap limited water). That seeps under two raised hugelculture beds inside. If I end up making some smaller poly tunnels, I might do something like this.

I am also going build another in my garden, I recently found your channel and have been totally inspired by it, I have already planted loads of stuff. Many thanks David in the UK.

Excellent video. I visited the my local recycling store at the dump/tip today and got a half roll of poly pipe for $15 to make hoop houses over my raised garden beds ready for spring. Also a beautiful basket for garden harvest $3 I just love being able to repurpose other peoples donated goods. Being on the Darling Downs Qld I think spring has already arrived. The next couple of days going to start seeds of all different varieties. Happy gardening for our spring and summer season.

Hey Weedy, Lois from the Sunshine Coast ranges here. Love this simple build. My partner and I have so many visions but are particularly slow at executing them because we want to 'do it right' and build something quality that will last. But this means we are getting alot less done, as we don't know exactly how we want to develop our land. Can't waste money putting in foundations for a shed if maybe in 3 years that's where we want to chicken coop! I like the idea of making simple structures that can be shifted, flowing more with the evolving nature of life on the land

Nicely done! The insect netting saved my tomato crop this year. I highly recommend using it. We used "hair clips" (the squeezable kind) to attach netting to our frames. We had used zip ties in the past but they were such a pain to take off at the end of the season.

Oh I love it!!! You know, I've already built similar, using 6 tall star pickets, connected and criss-crossed sides back and top using 'parramatta nylon rope, and covered it all with rolls of flyscreen sewn together with fishing line... the rain can get in... it's a veggie garden... Lately, I have been collecting stuff that I need, polypipe, metal rods etc, to make similar to Your vid... then I see Your video.... it's awesome... Had been eyeing off the corrugated sheets at the hardware store, fairly inexpensive... So soon I will proceed with Your guidance, after, I have set up my lattice walls and pond setting... ThankYou so much for sharing Your knowledge and delightful vids, such a pleasure to watch... Had just finished watching Your 'how to make bacteria for the garden, have all the ingredients, including three large brewers bottles... so will definitly have a go at that!!! Soil being so important... Best Wishes to You and Yours...

This is a good simple 'build' that's not so TALL that he can't reach the Top without a ladder or stand fully 'ERECT' inside of it. The 'materials' used though would have to be ADAPTED to your individual environments and needs, I believe. And you probably DON'T want to plant anything inside that requires 'pollination'. Also, I remember seeing a video that argued against the use of the materials affixed to his frame because they will soon require 'replacement' but we have to use what we have access to... just understand that some materials won't last for too many years. Good video.
