Built one last year and I have the same ice shack. Keep in mind the heater can only raise so much temperature above ambient. Therefore if it’s -20 outside it may not perform as expected as opposed to feeding it air at 60 degrees. The fix for this is to move the heater inside and extend the exhaust under the tent. I use a welding blanket between the tent and exhaust as it gets blistering hot. The other thing is your battery will do much better in the warmth of the tent, also elevate it off the ice and snow. Hope this helps.

Why not just buy a bullet heater? The one I have would run you out of that tent in 5 minutes if left on high. And it has wheels. And runs on diesel and kerosene. 330,000 BTUs. They make smaller ones that are more portable and almost as much output.

Doesn't diesel fuel gel when too cold? Not sure the specs, but that would be a real bummer if you were unable to start the heater when really needed. I may be misinformed.

Tip: When using a hole saw on plastic, drill in the opposite direction (reverse), this way the drill will not kick back, and the hole will be smoother. It will take longer though.

Hey word of the wise for exhaust wrap!!!........soak it for a few hours before you use it in water......it will keep down the glass dust and also let it strech a bit more ......then once it dries it shrinks and your finally product will be tighter and never come loose. Also use worm drive band clamps....pipe clamps to hold it in place!

Maybe add a small pieces of sheet metal or heat resistant metal on the inside the box wherever exhaust hose is close to the plastic. Taped hose will still be super hot & may melt plastic. For diesel fuel add anti freeze gel to it. Why is fuel tubing green? Maybe use clear tubing so you can see fuel flow. Maybe (pipe wrap)insulate the outer blower tube so heat does not get lost. Really Great job!

If you ever find yourself having to use that exhaust heat wrap again, soak it in water before you use it or try to wrap a pipe with it. It makes the process so much easier, you get a much tighter wrap and the fiberglass shreds won't be as bad and won't float through the air and get on everything. We've used that stuff on just about every car and off-road vehicle we've done and the tighter wrap does a much better job holding in the heat.

With those diesel heaters they recommend that you run it on high. The soot you'll get from it from just running it low will build up faster. Running it on high will Burn It Off.

I just got a diesel heater this fall. I'm in Minnesota, it's -10F right now. The battery they have is just fine outside. The heater itself might last a bit longer inside the tent, with the exhaust going outside. That's how truckers do it. The diesel tank itself is indoors for the setups I've seen in RV's and van conversions. I run mine once a month if I'm not using it, to keep it primed. Not much on YT as far as instructions for these. Most are made in China. I know 3 different people using a diesel heater in Canada, and after 1.5 years, they are all having issues with theirs, but this is in a camper van, and they live in theirs full time.

Awww yes the old brown hole... You can buy a 30$ attachment for your hand drill to quickly drill the anchors into the ice. FYI the second fish you caught was a Kokanee (Big eye/forked tail). I believe a kokanee is a landlocked sockeye salmon, however you might have a different species in AK. Nice fish....awesome video!

Hey fellow fish chasers. Just to let you know the first fish was definitely a rainbow, but the second two are either kokanee (landlocked sockeye salmon) or landlocked silver salmon. Look at the size of the pupils on the second two...that gives them away as salmon. I don't know history of the lake and what was stocked, but i've caught enough variety of salmonids to distinguish species differences visually.
