Building a Queen Castle

Building your own equipment is not only fun and less expensive (typically) than buying commercial products, but also means you can experiment with new ideas and customize it to suit your needs. I looked at many ideas online and decided on the 3x3 queen castle in a mostly medium sized box. I chose three frames per chamber so that there was a little more flexibility with the medium frames even though that meant losing one chamber from a more traditional queen castle. All relevant measurements are given in the video.

so you need another box ontop? why is that?

Another box isn’t mandatory but I liked to add one when I had mason jar feeders in use. Otherwise a regular lid would be fine. Hope that helps!

@@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees so you dont use mason jar feeders anymore? Have any general advice for running these 3 colony 2 frame nuc boxes?

@@0hleg when I feed these colonies I still use mason jars. When I’m not feeding them then I’ll just use a lid with no extra box.
