@@DevDuck it should totally be an albino version of the species! It’s very rare in real life as well, I think it would be a super cool way of making rare animals! Although I’m not sure all animals can be albino, but I think it’s a good place to start.

I love how you can actually set sail now and find a new island, almost a metaphore for the difficulty of making this thing in the first place. I would like to see a zoom which takes you from the boat view to the guy leaving the ship, rather than a cut, it would seem very seamless and awesome.

One small thought: It feels a bit odd that crabs are dropping their shells and claws when the point of the corruption system is that you don't kill them. Maybe go for some more natural resources like sand/rock/seashells that you wouldn't necessarily get from animals, but I think that would follow the whole pacifist style more nicely.
@tomcheairs3131
@tomcheairs3131 3 жыл бұрын
For the Crabs I can see their shells being dropped because some crabs molt. So you can say by removing the corruption it molted that shell off. But with the claws I do agree it is kinda against the spirit of the game.

This looks amazing. A UI suggestion from a n00b: This probably has been suggested below but how about instead of the segments being a fixed fraction of 100%, they change based on the goal for that creature. so for the crab the 4 milestones are 1, 5, 10 and 50 % of the bar. Or Just show the next milestone and change the creature icon color from nothing to bronze to silver to gold so that players feel motivated to hit that milestone?

I love the idea of unlocking perks based on how many organisms you save, but I think it would be better if you didn't see the organisms in your research log until you find your first one. That way there's a mystery to the organisms that can be found. Also just a thought before your game get's too much text in it, I would recommend having a text or json file that contains all of your game's text that your game reads from. That way when it comes to translating your game into other languages it's as simple as changing the file you read from.

This may sound a bit nitpickey, and maybe you've already addressed it because this devlog is several months old now, but considering the nature of the game, I feel it's important. You probably need to more clearly define "saved" for your bestiary tracker. The reason I say this, is because currently it seems you basically have it set-up like a 'kill count' from what I can tell. Every time you cleanse the corruption from a certain creature type, you get 1 extra added to your score for the amount of that creature you have 'saved'. The issue here is, that because creatures can be re-corrupted, if you've cleansed a creature of corruption once, but then it get's corrupted again, your 'saved' count would reflect you as having saved 1 creature, but in reality, you haven't actually saved any, because that one creature just got corrupted again, if that makes sense. It's not reflective of the actual progress the players made in their mission and for the game. Technically, the log could state you've 'saved' 500 of a certain creature, but in reality you've actually saved not one from the evil forces at work because they all just became corrupted again. I see two solutions to this. Either simply rephrase the term from 'saved' to 'defeated'. Even if the same Crab gets defeated twice and you cleanse it twice, and it gets corrupted again, you've still 'defeated' a crab twice, even if you've not saved it, so the log entry is still accurate. Or the alternative solution, which yes, sadly would be alot of work and maybe not even worth the memory requirement - though I feel it would fulfill the games narrative better - would be to create a system that individually tracks the current state of any creatures you've encountered on an unique level, and the 'creatures' saved progress bar in the logbook fluctuates depending on the current amount of creatures that you've defeated that have remained uncorrupted - so one moment it might read 500 creatures saved, the next moment it only reads 499 - then you'd know you must have missed a source of corruption and will have to go back to ensure you are more thorough next time. As fitting and cool as such a system would be, you'd also need to carefully plan, design and balance it it to ensure that it didn't force the player into a kind of "whack-a-mole" type of gameplay - and you'd also need to have a narrower focus on the types of rewards offered for saving a certain amount of a creature; Though the "improved drops" thing, or anything else passive, would probably still work fine; It'd be poor form to have physical items or spells suddenly disappear from the player's inventory with no obvious explanation. Just something to think about.
