About a Fire Break: In my experience living in forested mountains and major wildfires as an EMT/SAR guy, while somewhat useful that narrow road isn't much of a fire break. The closeness of the trees pretty well defeats it for anything more than the weakest ground level fire. Even that could send up embers that will jump that narrow road. My advice is in two parts. 1). Discuss with firefighting authority in your area (local Forest Service, BLM or volunteer FD) the needs of your location. Brush removal, removing deadfalls, clearing distance of vegetation to structures. Failure to do this has cost many people dearly in lost homes, vehicles and possessions. 2). Sprinkler system. I cannot emphasize this strong enough! I have been involved in major fires where the only thing to save the structures turned out to be a sprinkler pipe built at ground level in a perimeter away from the home or other structure. The idea is first you clear vegetation the advised distance in "1", above. Then you clear underbrush in the area that your sprinklers can soak. Build a PVC with sprinkler heads system around the perimeter. Design a low point drain with a normally open valve. Normally, the system is empty with the water feed shut by a supply valve. Test it, all pumps and power sources before fire season, keep water tanks full. Seriously, I've seen these two steps work in two truly desperate scenarios that wiped out many homes and small businesses. While there are never 100% certainties, planning and taking action ahead of time gives you your best chance of coming thru a wildland fire without great loss.

Hi there. Billd a fier on top of the rock and put a lot of heat in the rock and then let the fier go out and the cold water will crack it open for you. Trust me it works good. I have done this method and I got 21 rocks out at home be burning the rock .

SERIOUS TALK : The next time (TOMORROW) that you go into town take the old banjo bolt with you and get 2 more and a bunch of the aluminum or copper sealing washers as well. The one you made out of the mild steel bolt will work but only for a very short time because it will not handle the vibrations put out by a diesel motor. Heck, the proper purpose made bolt cracked and that was made specifically for the job and the mild steel one will simply break which means that instead of a smallish oil leak, you will have an oil geyser gushing oil all over hot exhausts and turbo's which means a burned out piece of equipment and maybe a forest fire - all extremely bad outcomes don't you think?

Yeah, I saw that "grade whatever" galvanized bolt and was pretty worried about it being modified to work like that. I would most definitely recommend that Riley get an OEM version ASAP.

As an equipment operator I feel it is necessary to inform you that the tracks are the excavator are over tensioned. While I understand you don’t want them to come off the idlers, they need to have some slack as to not wear out the idlers rollers and sprockets. With them being as tight as you have made them you will need to replace your undercarriage relatively soon. I have an insane amount of respect for you and what you do, just thought I’d give you my two sense on some equipment things

Don't know your future plans yet for the trail work shown today, but highly recommend you dig a "bar ditch" on the high side to take away the rain water. Otherwise a lot of that fill soil will end up down slope.

I think it's highly likely that will get wet heavy snow follow be wet heavy rain this winter since strong El Nino winter, but if also could just be very dry and mild winter too.. in general, but long-term I see it getting washed or eroded away too and it could even happen with one extreme rainfall.

There is an outslope on the tread and water is broken up by reverse grades every so often (didn't pay that much attention to figure out distance). It will hold up the use they will be using it. It's normal trail technique that has been around a long time. Tyler did a great job.

Try to seed it and get some grass on that before the snow falls. When the snow melts, lots of that dirt will wash away if you don't have grass to hold it in place.

Riley, Put a 2-inch piece of 3/8 or 1/4-inch ID fuel line where that bracket was and then make a new bracket that fits over the fuel line. It should absorb the vibrations and keep it from wearing a hole in the Oil line to the Turbo again for a very long time.

That clip on the oil feed line going to the turbo, I think they typically have some rubber inside them to handle vibration and prevent the exact problem you found. Any chance you have an old inner tube from a bike and can stuff a piece of rubber inside the clip?

I agree about the rubber between the pipe and the clip, saw many examples of it in my 47 years in the motor trade, another possibility is a thin piece of hose, or a few layers of electrical tape

Our cabin is accessed from a road like that. Super important to have a swale on the inside edge to keep water off the driving surface or it will erode quick. Then diagonal crossings to the downhill side at strategic spots.

As to what to build at the top of your mountain, may I suggest building a tower that would house a 360 degree, live, webcam that everyone online could access? It would also be a way for you guys to monitor what's going on around you in terms of coming weather, (God-forbid) fire, etc. from the comfort of your home.

For the tracks take out the grease Zirk push the tensioner all the way in remove one length of track and put the zirk back in put grease in and you should be good to go

All of the loose dirt used for fill will need to be compacted. You might try to build a quick disconnect adapter for the excavater that will allow you to attach a plate cokpacter to it. Then you can compact the road surface and the fill embankment. Good luck.

Hello from the Netherlands. on top of the mountain is DEFINITELY THE PLACE for a large(er) permanent family home. but ONE thing : really build WHAT you WANT to have there and HOWEVER BIG you want your family to be! so there is enough space for as many children as you want to have your own bedroom. I would love to follow the video of the house construction. or whatever you are going to build there. maybe a watchtower for now? On my EX120-2 I found that lifting up the track i want to tension works well and reduces the amount of pressure needed to pump it up. Then while it is still off the ground work run the track slowly each direction to make sure it stays pumped up. It will hang down along the lower rollers a couple inches and that is perfect. Nice road and a small cabin up there would be awesome.

Riley, you need to be sure you seed the downslope bank real heavy with some fast growing bank grass, in order to keep the rain from washing your trail out. Use your hydroseeder, and go over it a couple of times to make it heavy. Did you not build one? Good luck

Figure out a way to put your solar up there and and you will have better solar production for the shop house. You could also catch water in a tank up there and have gravity feed down to the shop house. You could put some solar tank heaters on it and it won't freeze. Just some ideas.

Riley when your track Tensioners get too extended you need to take out a piece of chain and pad off of the track so you don't blow out a seal on the Tensioner!

If you have an oddball rock, try demolition grout. Cordless drill, pour it in and come back the next day to a cracked rock. Knock on wood, after 3 years all my equip still starts great!

2 story fire watch. Lower story covered in stone. Maybe incorporate some of that beautiful rock that Riley chipped out of the pathway. A place that sleeps 6-8 people, fire pit. Maybe a deck that over hangs the edge with a view of the lake. Oh and a zip line back to the house!

Fire lookout is a GREAT idea! You could turn it into a HipCamp stay destination with a little compost toilet, shower and propane camp stove with a high end cooler for refrigeration and charge top dollar for stays. You could keep a couple of stacked IBC totes there to collect water, and build a little outhouse. AND when you three or some family or friends come to visit and want to enjoy it, it'll be there waiting for you!

Hi guys, Wow, that's one amazing spot you've got there. What you should do is to build your new home there. Since you currently only have got one bedroom you will soon outgrown your current dwelling. Get your new home there, with more bedrooms to future proof your family size, and keep your current dwelling as a guest house. You will of course need more installed power (the spot looks perfect both for sun panels and maybe even a wind turbine?). You'll probably also need to install a real well and a septic tank too. But with 500k+ subscribers, you shouldn't have any problem to get sponsors to provide this for you. And with a new home comes a wider road to the top, and that will probably be the highlight for us viewers too. :)

You guys should build a wayside shanty. Just a little 1 room log cabin with a wood burning stove and a bed to stay the night, and have a big window aiming out at the view. That way you guys can ride down with Oliver, fire up the wood stove, cook a little dinner, and drink hot cocoa while looking out at the view. Can you imagine what the snow would look like from there? It'll also act as a wayside shelter for times when you need to stop & warm up, or you could add some solar panels and make it a recharge spot. :) soooo many ideas. But you can use up some of that wood left over.

Build a fire lookout with hihg voltage solar and a decent size wind turbine that you can connect back to your house. Less tree line shading for better winter sun and the turbine for year round help at night. Optional you can make it a rental spot and I will be your first renter for a week.

that is awesome. To have a trail of that hill, I would definitely work on widening it a little at a time and to you can get the excavator, all the way at the top. Why didn't know for a regular car can drive up it, because if you ever had to bring supplies to build something it would be a big problem and very time-consuming. I know it will be time-consuming building a little wider road but I believe it would be well worth it down the road, but that's no big deal, for now you have access that is the big deal. it does look awesome up on top of that hill looking down into the valley, awesome view

For rock splitting, you may want to look at getting some feather and wedges and use your hammer drill. Works pretty good in the right situation. For the top of the mountain, nice place for a wood burning hot tub on a huge deck. Whatever you guys do with it, it will be amazing.

Top of the mountain build. Make some kind of mini cabin, not too small, and have a full wrap-around covered porch. If insects are an issue, have at least a section screened in. Make sure the roof over the porch extends far enough for protection. You already told me what happened to the eyes on the Terra Raptor. I really miss them. You should put a solar panel on the equipment you leave parked for long periods of time should help keep the the batteries from self discharging. won't recharge them from empty but should help and shouldn't be too expensive.

I have a 10 amp solar panel that keeps 4 12v batteries charged in a tractor. I don't know if they make a 24v but easily 2 12v would work
