It is because of you guys that we got motivated to start gardening on a plot of land in a community garden. We harvested 220 pounds of potato and veggies so far. A little bit is still in the garden. For the next season we plan on growing some plants in advance and also plant a 3 sisters garden on some of the land. Just thank you.
@hollargirl-w1e4 ай бұрын
Three sisters is tricky because he corn has to get a certain height to support the bean vines. plant is a week or two ahead of the beans.
@shelleyrichards63604 ай бұрын
What’s a three sister garden?
@gaylecoffey33134 ай бұрын
@@shelleyrichards6360 It's usually corn, beans and squash planted together in the same row. Used when your planting space is limited but you have to carefully time your planting so the corn won't be overwhelmed by the faster growing squash which will use the corn stalk as a climbing pole. Instead of squash, which often results in a tangled mess, we planted corn, beans and cabbage. The cabbage was planted between the corn stalks, out of the direct sun, which gave them a little shade and slowed their development, making the heads tighter and more compact and avoiding splitting due to fast growth. In addition, the spreading cabbage leaves helped preserve soil moisture for the corn and beans, reducing the need for watering. We planted half runner beans which also climbed the corn stalk, strengthening it against being blown over and providing nitrogen for the corn. The squash is supposed to splay out around the corn and beans, shading the roots, but we ended up spending a lot of time untangling and pulling it out of the corn and beans and spreading it on the ground. Thus the switch to cabbage.

It’s about that drone footage!! Spectacular! Your team-work is top notch… loved the bit about owl pellets… as a longtime retired 4th grade teacher, I quickly identified the owl pellet because we would yearly order owl pellets from a science distributor and the students would dissect them and compare them to several charts to identify which animals their pellets contained. This would then encourage students to seek owls and owl pellets (or other raptors)in their neighborhoods… fun! We hope you realize how far you’ve come in the construction and building fields… I become so focused on your process that I become frustrated if I’m interrupted by outside forces while I’m watching! Kudos! See you soon! ❤

Arielle, honestly.... the way you explain things you've researched and learned things about is incredible. It's HARD, first of all, to dig thru archives and accounts and forums of information on any subject, and I know you do many takes have your own bloopers... but truly, you are so gifted at sharing what you've learned on camera. The way you explained the stuff about windows (and literally anything else on any other episode) was so accessible and easy to digest. It's wild how many little cooking and baking things I've learned from you over the years, and just the fact that you can pop over to a full-on construction project and give people a 101 from what you learned on window insulation and UV ratings and all this other stuff is so impressive. I'm in awe, girl! Keep up the good work! Also shout out to the owl who pooped so majestically that his/her poop ended up earning a cameo

A big lesson learned in this video. Inspect anything that you buy when you receive it. So many people buy things and just sit on them for ages and then when a problem comes around they expect others to take care of the issue immediately and sometimes, there is nothing that can be done if too much time has elapsed since you received the item or items.

I live in Vermont, have installed about 100 metal roofs. A couple of tips l have learned, set 6 or 8 sheets on some saw horses, measure down , on top of the ribs, not on the flat, like the manufacturer suggests. The rain and snow will not leak through the top of the rib. Plus, during heat and cold expansion, the rib flexes better! I have never had to return to tighten screws that were put through the rib, but have returned many times for screws on a flat ! Just a suggestion. 😅

Ariel is correct in terminology: the word is sheathing. One sheathes the exterior with sheets of OSB. ;-) Looking REALLY good! If I lived in Alaska I would miss long falls. On my Appalachian homestead fall lasts several months: September often all the way through December. I do have one comment about the roofing install: do-it-yourselfers always think the roofing screws should be applied on the flat part of the roofing, but in fact they should be applied on the ridges, or crests, of the roofing sheets -- in other words, the highest points. That's because water and debris tend to collect at the lowest points. Always something to learn. You did do a lovely job with all the flashing, however -- so important! Many do-it-yourselfers skip that step, which is disastrous. You also did an excellent window install. Very professional. You may want to consider painting the exterior of the concrete block black to help absorb heat. Enjoyed the video, as always!
