Building a servo winch and demonstrating control options for it.

Not a particularly quick run through on how to make a servo winch and what the control options are, but hopefully its informative enough to enable you to make your own choices at the time of filming (Nov2019). The control options shown are:
TFL Servo Winch from Banggood

Apologies, I had quoted the cost of the RC4WD at £40 during the filming when it turns out to be £35 and thus similar to the HeyOK option. The Hobbywing 1060 is less than £20 and the TFL controller under a tenner. The HeyOK is built specifically as a winch controller, offers a soft start option and will package inside the servo making it my favoured choice, however any of the other 3 will also work - I just have a small concern over the RC4WD option as it wasn't designed for this particular application - use it for driving a servo at your own risk!

Hey buddy, glad its of some use! Al at HeyOK is the man 🙂 Worth noting that this little one is limited to a 6v supply, if you need more its worth grabbing the relay winch controller instead - thats what I need to do for the next project 😉

I can get the rc4wd winch controller at my local hobby store and think that is what I'm gonna try for my Gen 8! Very helpful info my friend! Keep the greasy side down bud ✌🙃

I have the exact same winch controller from Aliexpress. It did the same, rolling ing, when powered on. Was using a dumborc reciecer. I did setup the failsafe from new, and it stopped sending signal to the winch, at startup.

So I used the same servo, set up with the glued potentiometer....it drifts ....go figure. On a hobbywing (cranked up to 8v) it will pull like crazy. I'm actually afraid to get my finger caught in it. Nice to see other options.

@@tedstinytrucks1380 fairly certain I figured it out.....i don't have enough deadband! switch to a channel with a twist knob instead of the on /off/on......and it's not pulling cable 1mm at a time... It's my first attempt at a winch. And it actually holds position now! Can't believe I didn't do this sooner.

that servo motor can take 3s no problem, even 4s is possible, the problem is the electronics, the electronics are very sensitive to voltage, the motor is not
