I’ve been trawling through a lot of vids on KZbin for an engine stand and I can confirm that yours is the one I’ve chosen and hope to make one tomorrow, thanks for a clear and easy demonstration of the process and materials etc. very helpful, I’m in the UK and have been thinking of making one to keep the motor safe in storage and to test and work on, thank you again.

This is the way to make a u-tube video. Simple. Concise. No distractions. No music. Decent camera. Designed for your average guy (or gal) to get something done.

I followed your instructions to the tee...with the exception of screwing in the bracing before installing the 2X6s. Otherwise, it's a great design. Mine is supporting a 1972 Johnson 9.5, 50th Anniversary. Thanks for the video!

Just built this! Your instructions made it easy. I had enough scrap wood and screws around that all I needed was tee nuts for my casters. I cut the braces at 45 degrees with my chop saw. I also used drywall screws since this will mostly sit in my garage. I had some wheels already, but they were threaded stud style. I bought tee nuts to use but they ripped the wheels out as soon as I put the motor on - gonna go get the casters you used now! Only other advice I have is for people to double check some measurements during assembly to make sure pieces are “square” before adding second screws. I measured the opposite ends of boards to make sure they were 24” apart before securing the cross boards. Thanks for the video!

Ditto what that guy said no BS straight to the point and the best thing about it is the product list why reinvent the wheel man why am I going to have to figure out what the measurements are when you already did it beautiful thing wish everybody else would follow suit

I already built one of these for my 85 hp Johnson. I am building a second one this weekend for my 33 hp Evinrude. They are cheap to build and work very well. I spent about $28.00 for everything. Harbor freight 2 " locking wheels and lumber at lowes. Thank you for using youtube..

Excellent design. I built your model with a few changes. I made a platform for my gas tank. My only costs were buying the wheels. Harbor Freight Tools. The scrap wood came from a new grocery store being built around the corner from my home. They were happy for me to take the scraps, rather than hauling it away. Thank you. Steve

Just built this stand this afternoon. Very easy, low cost build. I doubled stacked the bottom 36" base boards and also doubled the 32" brace boards for good measure to support a 70hp Merc. I used good 4" casters. I'll throw the motor on next week, but this stand is pretty dam solid! I'm confident it will do fine holding the bigger motor. Thx for posting this vid btw. Very helpful.

Built mine and it came out great-- thanks for the video! My wife and I finished this in about two hours. We used pressure treated wood and modified one part: instead of using 2 - 2 x 6 to hang the motor, we replaced one 2 x 6 with a 2 x 4. Perfect height for the Mercury 9.9!

Thanks for the video. I was looking for one to build and yours was the first one I saw that looked simple, sturdy and easy to build. I just finished building mine and it took me about an hour and a half from start to finish. I only made 1 slight change and it very slight. I lengthened the braces so they went from the top to the back edge of the bottom boards. That's it. Im very pleased and thanks again. Joe.

Hi John, I'm sorry but if your comment was directed towards me then I'm not sure what you mean. Maybe I should let everyone know that I'm not a carpenter, obviously, and I'm definitely not an engineer, I'm just a guy that bought an outboard boat motor and needed some kind of stand so I can store it in the off seasons. I thought, "you know, there has to be other people like me that needs something like this". If you notice cuts that aren't perfect, that's why. All I know is it works!

oh yes! using it on my 50 hp 2 stroke Chrysler, which needs 33" from underside of motor mounting bracket to tip of skag, your design gives almost 36". Very stable mount with or without fuel tank on the opposite side.

Good video. Gave me courage to get going on my first DIY project. One comment: reason you had trouble getting the braces to fit is because the angles (30&52) only work if the stand is installed at 8 degree angle (engine sits better on the stand ....transoms are also inclined)

Had to install 5 inch castors to clear the leg of my 1 ton Harbor Freight engine hoist. The stand would not fit between the legs of the hoist far enough to lower on stand. Raising the stand enough to clear one leg of the stand allowed it to move directly under motor. Works well for Mercury 50 HP EFI which weighs 255 lbs. Thanks for the great design!

For those wanting to put larger outboards on stand, I have an 8 hp Johnson, I'd use a few bolts and lags in areas of stress to include mounting 6-8 casters. And before you buy the casters, be sure to pick up some decent, locking ones. I have a picture of mine with an adjustable work shelf for convenient carb, etc. work. I'd post it but I can't figure out how to. Steve, Plymouth, MA

@sbc38855011 жыл бұрын
A few things you might consider. #1, Stagger your screws so that they are not into the same grain to avoid splitting. #2, Use yellow wood glue to join pieces of wood to each other. #3, The 2x6 pieces that the motor attaches to when on the stand are stressed in such a way as to want to pull out because gravity wants to rotate the motor backwards. You should through-bolt those 2x6s and use fender washers on both sides or large backing plates in lieu of washers. Angle braces also need beefed up.

Although I haven't tried it with a barrel and not sure of the dimensions of one, I'm sure you could use one with the motor stand. A large bucket and also a garbage can will work so I can't see why the barrel wouldn't, maybe some one else has tried it and might be kind enough to answer that for you. Thanks for the question tho staaberelli.

What is the weight capacity of the stand? I built on today, I will be putting 150 hp motor on there that way 488 pounds. I was thinking of putting an extra pair of casters directly under the weight bearing part of the stand in the middle.
@Adventureoutdoorz11 жыл бұрын
Sorry it took me so long to reply Jordan, I'm not positive but I would think it would be to small of a motor stand for that size of a motor. You might want to extend all the measurements and beef up the material. I'd hate to have it fall over on you or break. If anyone agrees or disagrees, maybe they could comment on it. Thanks for the question Jordan.

Can anyone estimate what, if any mod, is required to hold a 25" shaft (with extra space to slide a water bucket underneath) ? If the design was for short shaft then extra 10" I suppose?
@jordanwalker153111 жыл бұрын
This would work for a 75hp engine weighing in at about 260lbs right?
@heado22225 жыл бұрын
Hi didn't read all posts so this may have already been brought up, but when cutting your angles couldn't you have marked the board you were cutting by laying it along side the two you are attaching too, mark and make one cut, if done properly it should give you the perfect angle

Hi Christopher, yes they are 2 1/2". Good luck with the build.
@TheExBx4 жыл бұрын
@@Adventureoutdoorz thank you. I went with 28" braces, I made 45* cuts to keep it simple. Very nice engine stand, cost $25 including the screws! If anyone finds this, you'll need x1 - 2x4x16, x1 - 2x4x8, and x1 - 2x6x8 and a pack of x50 - 2 1\2" screws. Awesome!
OR... Just buy a used hand trolley and weld it a couple of metal bars to make it more stable and there you go: a long lasting metallic stand to carry and service your outboard...
