I appreciate your video. Good, simple, sturdy build. I would suggest that when you screw two pieces of wood together, that the top piece should have a hole drilled slightly larger than the screw, and the bottom piece should have a hole drilled slightly smaller than the screw (as you instruct). Having a larger top hole allows this piece of wood to be pulled tight to the bottom piece. Otherwise it is tough to get the fit tight.

Thank you Wayne! Excellent video. One small error discovered where your cut diagram shows the 45deg cuts across the width of the board and the assembly drawing shows them through the thickness of the board. However, some gorilla wood glue and an extra screw from the bottom made it work 🙂

The motor works but is acting up on us and you have the same 1985 evinrude (at least I think so) do you have any tips on if it keeps turning off in idol? It will be working and then will some time just turn off in idol.
@WayneTheBoatGuy
@WayneTheBoatGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Check for the obvious stuff first. Is water coming out of the telltale at idle. It should be, and that helps keep your engine cool. The next thing to check would be your fuel. If you have to use fuel with ethanol in it make sure your fuel is fresh and that you are using a fuel stabilizer. The next thing would be to check the idle speed at the carburetor it might be idling a little bit too low.

Thanks. Took me most of the day but love how it came out. I did a couple things differently: I had a spare length of pressure treated 2x8 that I used for my "transom" (and one scrap 44" piece of 2x4 for one of the bases). I secured the 2x8 with 4 , 3.5" 1/4" carriage bolts and instead of 1" wood screws, I used 3/4" #12 Pan Head sheet metal screw to secure my 2" casters. The head was plenty big to cover the hole for the casters, they are much like wood threads and I got 2 packs of 8 each for the 16 I needed. I figured all the force is down and there is not much on the screws so no less secure than 1" screws.
@socknetea
@socknetea 2 жыл бұрын
hey friend just a warning, if u used regular pressure treated wood for a transom in an aluminium boat its gonna rot it out extremely fast even if its painted or coated with any kind of sealant. The pressure treating process uses copper and the copper will seep and eat away at the aluminum. Its your boat and u can do whatever u want to it, just a concerned heads up. I just finished rebuilding and beefing up my transom, i used BCX outdoor plywood, cemented 2 pieces together cut my shape, routed the upper lip so it fit my boat, coated with a couple layers of fiberglass resin and painted it with spray paint enamel, its rock solid came out perfect and will last as long as the original.
@PapaMav
@PapaMav 2 жыл бұрын
@@socknetea hey friend, thanks very much for the thoughtful heads up and all that terrific info, preciate it. But I think you misunderstood. This is a vid on how to build an engine stand, so I did, nothing to do with a boat. Also, see how I put "transom" in quotes above? That infers it is not to be taken literally and the "transom" I was referring to was on my outboard motor stand.

I hadn't tested mine with more than 100 lbs, but I'm sure the design can hold a lot more than that. The weak places are the cross board, the wheels/casters, and the bracing boards. If you have something that's over 200 lbs, just brace those areas up a little more. Thanks for watching!!!
