My wife and I wanted to start making our own firewood, and potentially sell the excess that we may produce. Most will be sourced off the land currently, but we can also buy pulp wood relatively easy here in Central Wisconsin. Our children enjoy spending time at this land, and our first production of firewood was a lot of fun!
We plan to document this as a series, and I'll keep the thumbnails all the same as we grow - with the exception of adding "part 2" etc to each one. Once again I have to thank you, my subscribers, for following along on our KZbin journey.
Primary tools used in this video:
- Wolfe Ridge 28C log splitter
- Jonsered 2253 chainsaw
- Stihl 500i chainsaw
- Jonsered lifting tongs
- Milwaukee M18 cordless chainsaw
- LogOx 3-in-1 tool
Thanks for watching!

That 12 way makes quick work of the large rounds. If the blades were a bit longer on the outer edged I think it would split a bit more cleanly. Nice video getting the family all involved

Why not split into the trailer and save a step? It looks like the splitter tray will slide right in the end of your trailer. It will save everyone's backs. Great video.
@BacktoBob1
@BacktoBob1 2 ай бұрын
To be honest, I was too lazy to nose the trailer into where the end of the splitter is. But. For next time that’s what I’m going to do. Thanks for watching! Will have part 2 hopefully next week.

Hi, Arlo. Good video, Bob. A Wolferidge sure would be nice. My budget doesn't allow for one. Smaller splits work well for me. Large splits just smolder too long and dont give me enough heat all at once. Thanks for making great conent, Chris

I feel like the fire is much easier to control with smaller splits. Thank you for coming along with us!

Make sure you leave room to setup and test the first Wolfe Ridge firewood processor. As far as small wood goes, I don't split ash or pine that's under 4in diameter. Everything else I'll split in half so it dries. You'll want a conveyor, or two people, to take the wood off the splitter when running the 12-way wedge. How many cords a year is your first big goal? I'm hoping to cut and split 50 cords this year. So far I've got 45 cords to go. LOL, time to get cutting and splitting!
@BacktoBob1
@BacktoBob1 3 ай бұрын
I think this year realistically 10-15 cords maybe. Not going too crazy yet. I would love a conveyor, would be a huge deal. Going to clear out the new wood yard spot and make a game plan.

Before you start dumping wood chips down your roads and trails you need to watch firewood and the furnaces videos about the mess his wood yard is chips decompose and after time with rain and weather it makes a soupy gooo mess
@thefirewooddoctor
@thefirewooddoctor 3 ай бұрын
Fresh chips from the chipper can, and will, puncture vehicle tires. That stage can last a few weeks until they weather a bit. A good rain helps that process.

Darn you bob, I keep going back and forth between horizontal and vertical, i thought I was decided on the VSC, but that 28C puts out a pile of wood...
@BacktoBob1
@BacktoBob1 3 ай бұрын
So, it really depends on your end goal. I LOVE this 28C, and for the logs I'm doing it will be perfect. Smaller rounds I would say 14 inch it's awesome. Yes the 12 way makes more chaff and you have less size control than with a vertical, but it's one push and done. So there are trade offs. Check out the comparison video Firewood on the Hill did, between the 28C and the 17 VS. He had some BIG rounds and timed in on both machines.
