Nice equipment. Im jealous. Just a poor guy here in the hills of Western North Carolina. No truck. No tractor. No Splitter. Just an old van and three Stihl chainsaws. . Age 64 with asthma and a bad back. Im new to the woodhound life. Wish me luck

I'm not in the market for a wood splitter, but love your reviews so I watched the entire thing (on twice the normal speed though). You are always very comprehensive in your approach to reviewing products you use, and give honest reviews even when being sponsored by a product. That's my next splitter! Ive had my eyes on this model since it first was advertised. I love my ULTRA but you'll probably put out 3 times as much in the same time. One thing I wish they could do is make the conveyor swing side to side to make multiple piles without having to move the splitter.

There is a fault with the box wedge system,,, and this is not negative towards eastonmade company,,,, its just an engineering challenge. The box wedge does not clear the timber well on the edge, particularly the blind side, opposite to where your standing. The cut timber builds up and creates a squeeze pressure on the edge whilst cutting. One has to be conscious of clearing the edges frequently.

Well CRAP Adam. You just caused me to second guess myself. I was almost sure that I was going to pull the trigger on an Eastonmade Axis. But now I'm not sure that this splitter might not be better for me. It is a lot more expensive but it is much faster than the Axis. Maybe the smaller version for me. Decisions Decisions!

Great machine. The box wedge does create more waste; however, it coupled with the power of this unit should enable you to plow your way through your pile of large firewood poles fairly quickly. Good luck with the Eastonmade wood splitter. On a side note, I found your videos with the Firewood Guy to be extremely interesting.

You need a bigger saw to keep up with that splitter. The 400c is a beauty little saw but for production bucking you need a 500i or Husky equivalent and keep it sharp. You should be able to cut straight through that stuff without having to rock the saw back and forth. Dave

I used to cut and split my own firewood with a 8 ton splitter. It slowed down or even stopped on some really twisted grain type stuff. But I've got zero experience with a splitter rated anything close to 37 ton. That being said, I'm surprised at how much that one slowed down and lugged on a few of those if it's truly 37 ton. Maybe it's rated for more than 4 times the power but it didn't seem like it was 4.5 times as strong. But then again, my little 8 ton was only splitting with one blade while that thing basically has several to make multiple splits at the same time. That seems like it would make for a lot more resistance. I've never used one of those muti split types so I can only guess. And all I can say is wow to how hard that beech is. I've never even seen a piece of beech (it doesn't grow here) so I had no idea it was that hard. Sounds like it's similar to bodark which I do have some experience with unfortunately.

Yeah imagine trying to pound that box wedge into a log until the log split. It would require some serious force. The fact that it can push beech through there at all impresses the hell out of me let alone not jam up

If anybody can, a semi-retired firewood splittin' accountant can... as a "hobbyist"/(splitting for my own use) viewer, it's fascinating to see when the "tipping point" between processors and processes occurs. The economics is more of a small/medium business plan topic. But its a journey you are making for us all to follow I guess....

Hi Adam, looks to be a good addition to your wood processing, with the view of getting through all the larger diameter log piles. From this side of the lens there are couple issues that you touched on and some that struck me as potential issues. - I would imagine the operation would have to move the Splitter out of the way to clean around it at the end of every day. The amount of waste under and around the machine if a large quantity of logs are being processed during a work cycle. - The feeding tray seems to collect a lot of splits and is not feeding the splits onto the conveyor very efficiently. - With the potential power and force exerted, maybe a full face shield would be an appropriate piece of safety equipment. In the event that a split would accidentally fly back, potentially striking the operator. - Question would a sharper splitter edge create less waste? Hope you have a wonderful productive week ahead. 😀👍🪵👍🪵👍🪵

Now debri, I created about 60 yards this year after picking out kindling and chunk pieces. Thats running about 175 cords of tree service wood through it. Using the 7way box wedge making bundle size wood. If you split all straight wood species, and no knots, making 4x5 you'd probably get a decent amount less. Definitely wore out the bushing on the log lift and wedge left. Your right about being heavy, I really don't like to move her any other way than straight lol. Have fun, now the work of keeping her fed has began.

I make 1 cord per hour with my axis. It can do bundle wood, but it can also twisted or knotty wood because you can aim the wedge. Not a big deal to do 4 strokes of the wedge and end up with 9 pieces of firewood.

Beech is very easy to split fresh from falling, has nothing to do with grain direction. If you split it within 4 /5 weeks of falling the timber it splits readily. Great machine the 37 D,,,, did you think of renting a big horizontal processor and finishing it all in a weekend?

Wasn't really fair to say it wasn't a 5 second cycle time if you weren't running the machine at WOT (wide open throttle) because it won't have full horsepower at whatever rpm because your not putting the maximum amount of fuel to the combustion chamber to get max hp, and the rpms= gpm (gallons per minute) so you need max rpms for max gpm to achieve fastest cycle time. Y ou can't win a drag race by using 75% throttle because that will give you a no load rpm that is where your max hp is, you need to use it all. DON"T get me wrong I like you but if you like using it at the rpms that it runs smooth and works well for you that's great just don't expect peak performance there. If I run a skid steer or any other equipment I'd run it at 70% throttle if it doesn't lug down so I don't have to listen to it but I'm happy that way, if I need more power I bump the throttle up then back down so I can here myself think.

it's a diesel baby, run it wide open. Also, you dont want your fluid to get to hot. You need to run wide open so the pump moves the fluid quick enough or the fluid will get too hot and start causing leaks, also burn up the pump over time. I'm sure it's in the owners manual.

I have been in the firewood business for 29 years now. I have yet to understand why anyone would think that a box splitter like this is worth owning. Look at all the trash/shavings this splitter makes, box splitter waste more wood than they produce. You have a lot of time at the end of the day cleaning and burning all this trash.

Nice looking piece of equipment. Really looks like a pair of people could keep this humming along to the maximum capability of the machine - one sawing and helping to position the rounds, the other running the splitter. The safety Sam in me cringed, badly, on a couple of things I saw though: Having your hand in the mechanism stabilizing a log while the ram is going. The potential for crushing a hand to pulp from a momentary lapse of attention is over the top. Second - chaps when chain sawing.
