Today I will show you how to build an awesome Sob Rock inspired pedalboard for $1000! The pedals I suggest you get in order to cover the key sounds from this era will be discussed!

Isn’t it basically just katana>blues breaker>TS with some subtle slap back delay and a keeled Blues Driver for the trio stuff?

Solid. I already have the drives (JB Archer) and Flint and am loving the Keeley Halo for a delay. Hadn’t considered the Keeley chorus, usually opting for a CE-2W but that’s on my other board so now I’m curious.

If you MUST have a vintage screamer on the board, I recommend the Ibanez MSL(which is one of the modes on the Bonsai as well). I have one and I had an MIJ TS10, I would up flipping the TS10 and keeping the MSL. It's essentially a TS10 on steroids and you can even get some D*mble style tones with the gain cranked on it. You can still find them at a somewhat reasonable price.

Thank you 🙏🏻 & I love it to death! The Traditional Clean is rather dark sounding so having the Bandmaster to balance it out really lets it shine. Once I paired it with another amp it was more noticeable when running it individually, but on it's own it still does the Mayer sound better than anything else out there besides a TR Sterling imo!

@JustinJeske

Doing it in this video, the previous one, and every other one like this would be way too costly and time consuming. If I could I would, but it would make no sense for me to go out and build a $500 Sob Rock Board, then make a $1000 one, then repeat for the Continuum Era. I'd spend thousands on gear and boards I'd never use again. I play in videos where I want to showcase tones, not in ones that are informational/discussion ones. When I build the full 1:1 Sob Rock board you guys will hear it!

I like your videos ,and your channel BUUUUT I think they would benefit tremendously by adding sound examples of your choices to help viewers hear your reasoning behind your decisions you chose .I would disagree that the Soul Food is a bad klone .It's not for the money ,and man am I ever glad that I didn't go selling my JHS Meat & 3 modded one when I upgraded to other brands is it better than my Tumnus ,or my Tumnus Deluxe NO ,but stock ones are half the price .I would also offer up my opinion on your signal chain .I like a Klon before a Tube Screamer ,and if you put Delays after Tremolo it really diminishes the articulation of the effect. just my personal preference .
@JustinJeske
@JustinJeske 2 жыл бұрын
These are just fun videos to show how I would do these challenges and what I suggest for others to look into. Of course it’d benefit from sound demos of the board but I’m not going to go and buy all the pedals for these videos. Makes no sense too. I strongly disagree with the Soul Food. The JHS modded is great because it’s modded. The standard one sounds nothing like a real Klon and for just a little more you can get a gently used clone that’s way better. Literally right now I could by a new Soul Food for $135cad or a barely used Conspiracy Theory for $125. It’s a no brainer to look elsewhere and to save up a little more in some cases in my mind. As for the signal chain, totally, it’s all personal preference at the end of the day. But my suggested signal chain is identical to John’s, and it’s the only “right” way for the Sob Rock era if you want to replicate it. So that’s why it is the way it is!

@@JustinJeske No offense but I also have a Centura ,MXR Sweet drive ,NuX Horseman ,Moskey silver horse ,and a build your own clone of a Klon .My opinion is based on extensive research by playing ,and a/b-ing of these pedals .I love my Way Huge Fat sandwich I know George designs killer circuits .You can get a used Soul Food for $50 Literally right now. As for his signal chain. If I were you I'd double check .I'm pretty sure his CHAIN goes left to "right" on that part of his board .Now going back to your statement about your no sound guitar effect pedal videos .Why would anyone care about your suggestions, about pedals that by your own admission you don't have in your possession for the sake of differentiating one from the other .It seems to me that it's your opinion that makes no sense nuff sai...
@JustinJeske
@JustinJeske 2 жыл бұрын
You having an opinion is totally fine, you can like it as a clone there is nothing wrong with that. Mine view is just different. And okay, that’s cool you’ve played a lot of clones and found what you like. That’s obviously the best way to go about it. My opinion is as someone who also has experimented with the vast majority of clones out there, not to mention I own an actual Klon Centaur, that’s all what I base mine opinion off of. So I’m unsure why you’d say no offence to having owned a lot of clones, most people have tried out a lot of them. You are wrong on the signal chain and I’m not ever sure of which part you are talking about. You can clearly see the order is Flint, Neunaber Slate, Illumine, OAMP, out on every shot of his board from the floor seat view. Delays are clearly before reverb and John uses both sides of the Flint. Therefore this tour Trem being after delays is the sacrifice to get the Flint’s reverb after as well, which is different from the 2019 World Tour where it was before. As for the drives, they appear to go right to left from every single image I’ve seen. We don’t have a dead on shot of his board, and that’s between JohnMayerGear and I. One of us would have seen it and shared it with the other. Certainly no image exists that you can see left to right so I’d love to see what you are talking about. Considering John has never gone left to right with his drives either I think that would be a ridiculous claim without a clear shot to prove otherwise. So feel free to DM me on instagram any shot you think you can see a different signal chain other than TS10 -> Klon, and Flint -> Neunaber x2 -> OAMP. Well considering I’m just showing how I would do it as one of the most knowledgeable people on Mayers gear quite a lot seem to want to hear what I have to say as suggestions. I don’t care if my opinion/ what I say makes sense to you or not to be honest. I don’t expect everyone to agree or like this or any of my other videos.

@@JustinJeske O.K. I get it you're defending your content .I was simply wondering what makes you an expert ?I see that you've put in the time as a fanboy ,I'm sure you're very respected in the Mayer impersonator community .Which is why I asked you if his chain starts going to the "right" when it jumps up to the top row ,I never said anything about his drive section going left to right. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an authority on the subject. I've never seen him live I would have liked to have seen him with Double Trouble. I did see Stevie Ray with Double Trouble ,and I've seen the " Grateful" Dead .As for owning a "real" Klon ,you should sell it ,buy 50 Red Lamas ,and start a ranch. Then you could call your self an expert on Klon "hear"ding .You don't expect everyone to like your videos ,but you ask everyone too. this one has almost 250 !

@@STRATMAN1969 you make zero sense dude. "As for his signal chain. If I were you I'd double check .I'm pretty sure his CHAIN goes left to "right" on that part of his board" ...how am I supposed to understand what part you are referring to from that? You never asked "if his chain starts going to the 'right' when it jumps up to the top row" like you said you were. You were discussing the Flint's position and the Klon/Tubescreamer, so those were the only two parts I had to go off of. You're telling me you are "pretty sure" it does and I need to double check, so that infers you know what you are talking about, which now you say you don't (I'm not surprised). Yeah cause hitting "like" boosts the algorithm, if people enjoy the video then hitting like is a way to help me out. That doesn't mean I expect everyone to enjoy the video obviously. Again, you confuse me. Anyways, I'm tired of this conversation going no where. Have a good one dude.

I’d agree with all your picks here - good job, but I’d be putting them on my board which has gig rig power, a gig rig quartermaster qmx6, bespoke patch cables and a humdinger underneath for the wet dry split, which I’m afraid blows the budget completely out of the water, but I suppose I own these already so I’ll give myself a pass...👍🎸🇬🇧
