Could you ever do a video going over John’s Dumble history? I feel like he’s used so many different Dumble amps throughout his career (and Dumblators/A Box Later), and I’ve always wondered how many Dumble products he actually owns. Love your channel so much!

I play in bars and small clubs. I'm surprised at this level they don't have a B rig on stage in place for this. I have a spare deluxe reverb sitting next to my primary delxue just for this case. Just plug in fast and keep going.

The title of this video should be "That Time Mayer's $100 tube blew on stage...". Likely as simple as that and nothing to do with the amp itself. That crackling/popping noise is typical when a tube fails.

Welcome everyone who is here cause of the GuitarWorld post featuring this video. 2 Things: I’m sorry on the pronunciation, I’m Canadian so I’d never heard of that place before in my life! I tried 😂🤷🏻‍♂. Secondly, pausing and interjecting in the video often is actually an extremely common and proven strategy to avoid copyright strikes and allow the content to be used and shown to you guys. I don't expect everyone to get that or know, but that's how KZbin works and what a lot of KZbinrs do with these kinda videos.

I like the old school approach to this. All of those guys could be playing into axeffects or some digital direct system and 99% of people wouldn't even notice. John plays a strat through a 50 year old tube amp, it blows a tube and the tech just walks out there and replaces the head with another. Grant it these are 150k dumbles but even if it was fender reverbs, he is staying true to the classic sound of the dead and using era correct gear and he doesn't have to.

If Mayer just used a Fractal Axe FX 3 on tour he'd never have to deal with issues like this and I can promise you no one in the crowd would have noticed any difference. I do know he's starting to use the Axe FX 3 on his records though. <--- proud FX3 owner ;)

I understand it’s a Dumble, but it’s crazy to think that with all the money these guys have, that they don’t have a backup already setup and dialled in. Even a Two Rock or something that he can at least plug into quickly and keep going.

I believe a lot of the big bands and musicians that use amps on stage always have a backup of everything, usually the guitar tech or the musician have a stomp box that will switch from the primary amp to the backup, but I guess this was one of those freak accidents where nothing seemed wrong with the amp all throughout soundcheck but a damn fuse or tube just gave up

I went to this concert after the Mungion pre-show across the street at the Cubby Bear. It rained like hell and the lightning was crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if the rain had something to do with the amp failure. They stopped the show a couple times to let the storm pass. I slept in the off site parking lot that night and was off to my next concert the next morning. Some of the nicest people I've met were at Dead shows.

I saw an interview with Bonamassa and he said he sold all of his Dumbles and was playing through a wet/dry setup with Fender Tweeds. Bonamassa is certified bat sh$t crazy when it comes to collecting amps and guitars. He has an insane number of not just vintage tweeds, but mint condition vintage tweeds. I'm sure he has exceeded Rick Nielsen's number of guitars (who has more than 400)

John's worth about $70,000,000, so a $250,000 amp dying probably doesn't worry his accountant too much.
