Super thankful for this video! Excited to follow the VA Tech link and get to drying a beautiful pice of an Arizona ice cedar that is dripping all over my garage floor at the moment.

Great idea! Just the right size for the wood I deal with. I cut rough boards from my legs and put them on spacers in a closet in the basement. I put a small fan at one end. Finally got around to checking on them after 4 or 5 months, had a nice collection of oak, apple, Chinese elm, plum, and an unknown. All were down to 10% or less depending on how close to the fan they were.

Been seeing a few of your videos pop up in searches I'm looking for for projects and after about 3 videos I had to subscribe. I'm looking to do one of these and do a video for my channel as well so I appreciate the simplicity of yours and thanks for putting this up.

Very timely video! I just retired, borrowed an old sawmill from a friend and may start a hardwood business. Thanks Seth!

I m also thinking to buy an old sawmill. Price of the sawmill you bought ??
@MultiFarmguy
@MultiFarmguy 3 жыл бұрын
@@edwoodcon9039 Did not buy, just borrowed. however it took about 8 months of spare time work to get it running. Still a few thing to do to it but I can and do use it to do some sawing.

Im curious how this is working out for you. I can see how there may be some issues with it, but am wondering how it actually works with use.

Planning on doing one. But it is working amazing! It averages about 130F for a couple hours a day

Question, in the Virginia Tech PDF it states the size of the kiln is integral for the internal temperature to not get too hot. Because yours is quite small have you run into that issue?

Can this stay out in the rain too with no issues to the wood inside or can it only be out in the sun when it's a clear day?

@seths_custom_creations
@seths_custom_creations Жыл бұрын
It does not work as well in the winter, but the kiln will always be warmer than the outside air

Don’t dry the wood to fast or it may check and crack the wood badly. Nice build.
@seths_custom_creations
@seths_custom_creations 4 жыл бұрын
I try and dry it as fast as possible because I fill all the cracks with black epoxy. The bowls with epoxy sell a lot better.
