Excellent shelter build!! Just a tip for the doorway, that I have used... 1st time I built a super shelter, I rolled up a poly tarp, secured the fold with gorilla tape wiith 550-cord inside to act as a hanger/ridge line. This allows the door slide open and close alot more easily. Now I use a shower curtain with 550-cord through the grommets to slide the door open and close. Both methods work great but the shower curtain method is what use now!! Again, good build!
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
thanks James! Shower curtain sounds like a good option. Thanks for the tips! cheers

A long fire across the front if you have the wood, you could get it into the 70s if you wanted no problem. Nice job, haven't seen the cotton sheet before but it makes some sense. I live just outside the Adirondack myself👍.
@trollmcclure18843 жыл бұрын
These things look so simple but the built I made last week and the one before that gave me a lesson. This is professional. 4 hours to build it is not bad. I wanna make myself one at home. A super tent I could quick-deploy. I'd even buy one if there was a heavy duty version. My plastic tarp lasted one drunk overnighter before being badly burned and the grommets destroyed 😀
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
they are pretty fragile if the wind takes a turn. packing tape makes a quick and easy patch on the clear sheets

Great video, really like your content. Just a tip next time don't support the hips, they need to have the ability to sag to get a proper Mors bed. His booklet and instructors at Karamat taught us that you are only to support the feet area, knees and neck. The saplings and bows will take care of the rest. Good stuff though!

Thank you for taking another stab at the “proper “ super shelter. Honestly, respectfully, I was cringing seeing you try it with the last set up. I spent last fall digging into Mors Kohanski. I did a camp with a super shelter for the first time earlier this winter. I was amazed. Are used 4 foot long fire and it was 0° F that night. Someone else mentioned the Harrelton Hacienda. Kelly Harrelton was as I believe the last apprentice Mr. Kohanski took on.I’ve seen a lot of people skip the details on the super shelter. And the genius of it is in the details. Great job. I really wanted to see y’all and the dogs in that half a wigwam. Two thumbs up. 👍
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike! The biggest issue I had with the last version was the seal at the top escaping heat. The small space heat up quite well, but leaked heat. I needed to get up one point around 3am and rebuild the fire. Details are important. Was fun going back and learning more about the process/design. Its quite an interesting shelter. Gotta check out the Hacienda. cheers

you are thinking one advantage is raised floor ( should put planks crossway not long way ) and you are using more tarps to hold in heat and keep out wind and cold and the fire is good idea my biggest takeaway is probably the raised floor

Hi Jess another great video thanks! I was wondering if there was a methodology behind using saplings for the bed instead of laying logs? Gotta find me some of those snow leopard sheets, looks like great inexpensive snow camo!!
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! There is a benefit in that the saplings will flex and help contour to your body. I actually used a bit too heavy saplings. About 10 finger diameter saplings are good for one adult.

Love the shelter build, the fire you need to heat the shelter is a Siberian log fire, their awesome and it would last all night, Lars from over at Survival Russia uses the Siberian log fire in minus -50°C. as always I love the content you and the Misses put out.
@EnduranceRoom3 жыл бұрын
thanks brother, I dig Lars’ channel. That is definitely the fire to go with if you have the logs to build it. You can simulate it by stacking more together. Idea is to make a restricted air space, kind of a natural stove, so its burning inside out.

@@EnduranceRoom your shelter design is similar to an igloo / greenhouse and if you were able to sheet it with vapor barrier type plastic would be beneficial for sunny days to help heat the inside...would have to have a sunlight type sunroof opening at the topside...also note if you took thinner saplings weaved thick end to thin end alternating around your main sapling ridge poles it would add strength...I saw a video a while back where a fellow did that to a bushcraft bowsaw...looked very sturdy
