I love the sounds of silence. I do not understand why some people feel the need to bring music into the forest when the woods has its own melody.

@@ATHOSOutdoorProspector I understand the power of music to make a mundane task not so mundane. After decades of listening to the radio while driving my two hour commute to work, the radio would go on all day at work to drown out the sounds of equipment. Being retired, I rarely put on the radio and I threw out my television a very long time ago.

I agree when I'm roughing it and camping city noises are the last thing I want to hear. Now if someone is playing a guitar or harmonica that's different but I do love the sounds of nature.

Your variety of shelter structures is neat, It shows quite clearly that there many ways to construct "survival" and more long lasting shelters. Great job. My favorite are the dug outs. If I ate a raw onion, it would be the end of my "outdoor" trip, very quickly. Great job as usual. ;-)

Beautiful environment and great information---EXCEPT--- Our dire needs for survival must take into account all the dangers we will face in our epic challenge of survival that is showing up on its appointed time and beginning to show evidence that it has arrived. 12,000 years ago it lead to the extinction of 8/10 of all animals and plants. Humans managed to survive this challenge again as they have done every 12,000 years for over 100,000 years. Some of our scientists have recognized the Micronova. The compass has served our navigation on the planet reliably pointing approximately north and showing east, west, and south. For now, my compass is suspect, misleading by 15 degrees greater than our local declination, because the magnetic north pole has begun to move south farther and more rapidly than ever noted before. Scientific tracking has established that the south magnetic pole has also begun to move radically faster and has now left Antarctica headed north. Building survival in a forest makes sense until the solar flash ignites all combustibles. Dugout shelters might not survive and the heat of a forest fire roaring through the forest if it is on the sunside of the planet consuming even logs protected by soil and moss. And it would also consume enormous amounts of oxygen leaving a wake of suffocated survivor wannabes in their "survival shelters". Any suggestions?

You have to have a knife. A hatchet will work, but a knife can shape other tools. When I was in basic training, they dropped us in the bush with only a hunting knife. They wanted to how we could survive. A month later, they found me in my camp, cooking up a rabbit. I could live in the bush indefinitely, if I was allowed.

I'd want to know the whereabouts of any snake visitor before I got too cozy with my eyes closed. Otherwise, you might wake in the middle of the night smack in the middle of a musical. A little tickle of your feet as the snake serenades you with, "Can I lay by your side?"

I find it rewarding as well as interesting to watch a man build his shelter, eat and do the essentials of life. All the planning and effort! As the process moves ahead, it’s fulfilling to see all the good things that are soon developed: from the personal security and physical comforts of a well constructed shelter where a body can sleep and rest out of the rain, wind and inclement weather. YET EVEN AS I relax and admire the addition of comforts of cooking fire and watch fires, I wish I could send you the gift of a mongoose that will be on constant patrol guarding you against dangerous snakes and other varmints! Well, ima going to watch the next video now! I’ve a little time to enjoy one more before my daughter drops off her youngest of 2 sons for a visit with me. I have always been fascinated by an off grid life where people live simply but very well
