I loved it! One of the better made vids on debris shelters. You were honest and upfront about everything. I could not find fault in anything so you get a "good job" and a respectful nod of recognition. But to be honest, I'm not a big fan of debris shelters. I've built them and used them and for the most part was not a fun experience. And not worth the effort put into it. Oh and as a pro tip: Go ahead and use that tarp as needed. In fact I'd recommend using it anyways.
@CampingwithSamBananas Жыл бұрын
Appreciate that my friend! I agree the tarp is much more practical. In reality, a tent or hammock is even more practical. It's just about the fun and the experience of trying. Thanks for watching and it's always nice to see you in the comments. Cheers 🍺🍌

You proved your prowess with a saw and axr to build your shelter in no time! It's a shame you couldn't have stayed another night for all the work you put into it! Nice job! hahaha One time I waited on my deck in the dark in the middle of the night just to get a picture of the skunk that would come through and eat the cat food we left out there for our shy cat. I got an epic picture of a skunk with no zoom who was maybe 5 feet away from me. I thought I was badass for that until I was watering the plants in the middle of the night because the entire daytime was too hot to be out there gardening. I had the hose on one of the big trees and was reading a book on my phone using all kinds of night vision settings. Out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw our shy cat coming up. He was shy but he would let me pet him sometimes because I rescued him as a kitten so I assumed it was him. I leaned down and casually petting what I thought was my cat but it was actually a skunk. Both the skunk and I were alarmed. I could tell that the skunk wanted to be petting but was afraid of me and, frankly, I felt the same way. In any case, I just pretended as if I couldn't see the skunk and even called the skunk by the name of the cat who I thought it was. This let the skunk back up a bit and go by me at a slightly greater distance and neither of us were worse off for the encounter.

If you would check the grapevine was probably not dead ! The sap goes down in winter just like a tree. Grouse. squirrels and birds depend on them for food. Never cut one unless absolutely sure and I don't know how to tell easily and I'm a 70 year old outdoorsman.
@CampingwithSamBananas Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it was dead. I camp in these woods years round. I've been eyeballing that exact same spot for over a year for a shelter build. I've never seen vegetation on that vine. Also it snapped when I bent it, pretty clear sign it's dead. I do appreciate your concern and I'm with you on it.

@@CampingwithSamBananas I was cutting vines that were choking trees a few years back, those on your site look like old growth grape, the Poison Ivy has a hairy stem/vine, some thin, some larger in diameter. P.I. is a strange plant, it grows in many different, shapes and forms, from spread out on grass, to bush, to vines. Bruising, cutting, and burning are a sure way of making contact. OK sorry about the fear mongering, just wanted to pass it along for everyone. Happy camping.
