This video is of the building of Tamiya's 1/35 Stug III from start to finish.The build took just over 4 hours and shows the quality of the engineering of Tamiya kits. If you are looking for a beautiful , highly detailed ,easy to build kit I would highly recommend the Tamiya brand.

Just wanted to drop in to say thanks for this series Andy. As someone who has only returned to the hobby in the last 12 months, I found a lack of enjoyable yet informative videos on the subject. Your painting guides especially have been very helpful, but sometimes I will just have one of your builds on in the background when I'm building myself. Thanks very much.

I have an old unbuild Tamiya Sturmgeschutz III Aufs G with an electric motor in it. Probably 25 years old or more. I know even without the complications brought on by the motor it will take me 3 or 4 times the time to build. Of course I am not a very build builder. Interesting video. I agree that some commentary would have been nice as I have seen in newer videos. Thanks.

The only advice I will give to new and aspiring modellers is to use a proper primer for your models and not Tamiya acrylic as Andy is using. Using a primer gives a better finish and the primary colour will adhere better and have a smoother finish . There are many primers on the market and having used most I am a massive fan of Mr.Surfacer 1500 primer - it really does make a huge difference to your model. I use Mr.Hobby Levelling Thinner 400 and please make sure your room is well ventilated and you wear a mask as the smell is strong.

Yeah, that fact is surprising me too. Btw., do you have also the opinion, that newer kits are needing a much more intensive degreasing than in former times? In former time simple dish detergents could do their job but today I more and more often have to use spiritus . . .
@vortexmodeling
@vortexmodeling 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, i noticed that .. however many experienced modellers say that new kits don't have to be washed because oil based release agents aren't used anymore!.
@letoubib21
@letoubib21 7 жыл бұрын
For the title consultant occupational physician I had to work for three months in a factory at the assembly line. Cause of my hobby I'd chosen a factory for plastic injection molding. And in fact we didn't use any release agent---the parts were ejected by pressurized air. But that was acrylonitrile butadiene styrene for car and truck parts (for me it was unbelievable how much is made of plastic today, even large parts of truck brakes) and not "our" polystyrene. Btw., those injection molds are uncredibly expensive. An only medium sized one is about one up to three million Dollars! And made in Poland ours were rather cheap (today the whole factory is there) . . .

Late to the show on this build but I have a question on Dark Yellow washes. Just built a similar Stug III except mine is the Dragon Stug III Ausf G Early Production kit. I'm just returning to the hobby after nearly 6 years and some things have changed such as some of the products on the market. My question is, what is the best color to use for an overall Dark Yellow color that isn't too harsh? Such as doing washes around nuts and bolts? Also when dry brushing Dark Yellow color? Anyway been watching your vids for awhile and enjoy your builds, especially the Takom King Tiger.

You ever think it might be easier to paint certain hard-to-get to parts first, before gluing them on. I cant imagine how hard it would be to get a brush in beneath certain wheels and under the barrel after gluing everything together.

I'd put them together for you for free lol... I love models. :) Did a 1/35 scale WWII Battle of the Bulge scene for History class. :) Took a while to do, I had a stone bridge, snowy river banks, pillboxes, foxholes, trees, etc. I built a King Tiger, and Wespe just for that along with others I already had built. The infantry men probably took the longest, painted them all by hand; including their medals and buttons, etc... Faces, weapons, satchels, etc... You need patience and a few hours to do them justice. Needless to say I got an A+ in the class because of that project. :) The teacher could see the time I put into it. Unfortunately we had a horrible moving company and they destroyed the contents of my wooden box that had the diorama ... :( But at least I have my models and can possibly rebuild it when we move again here soon! I have pictures if you'd like to see...

Well thanks Michael, I appreciate it. The problem is I reside in Miami and don't know if you live here too. I wish I had a complete collection of ww2 war material- tanks, planes, trucks, halftracks, etc, but unfortunately I lack the knowledge and patience to do it. Where are you from?
@michaelturney9225
@michaelturney9225 7 жыл бұрын
I live in Vero Beach atm, but I'm moving in a week. :( Models do take a lot of patience and precision but it is well worth the time invested. I'd say work at your own pace, and watch Andy's videos if you needed help. Try not to stress over how it will look, or how long it might take. I've had to repaint several times myself, before I got looks I really liked. It is a labor of love that is extremely rewarding and fun, just the ideas of what you can do are amazing. Do you want to do a early war looking model, or something beat up? Was the vehicle captured and used by the enemy or partisans??? Where was the vehicle serving; and why? I love history, and those who don't know it are doomed to repeat it!
@luiscorzojr_1814
@luiscorzojr_1814 7 жыл бұрын
We aren't that far, but we would have to be closer. In answering your question, I'm most interested in german equipment, then soviet, and some Japanese. No captured vehicles nor partisan used, just official standard painting with its respective insignia, some desert adapted, others Europe adapted camouflaged. One question: Do they sell these things already built, some other company for instance that manufactures it already built?
