I have been homeless due to serious chronic medical condition. I lived in a tent in a wooded area in the middle of town in the summer. After ending up in the hospital from living like I did, despite having good healthcare the whole time, I did get services that helped me get stable housing, which stabilized my health. I continue to get support from those community services. What most people dont get is that expecting people to get a job, over come addiction, address mental health or health issues DOES NOT WORK until a person has a safe, stable, protective, form of housing, even as simple as the little portable sleep camper in this video. You can not address any issue if you are hungry, scared of injury and violence, theft, and never truely sleep.

Even without a foam pad on the floor, this would mean so much to someone. To be at least off the ground, in warm bedding, able to cook, be out of the wet etc would be such a massive bonus. My only two concerns here are wind driving rain between the fascia and the roofing at each end (maybe use some silicon or expanda foam??) and the latch on the outside being how it is, would allow some creep to put a pin through the latch whilst Daryl is inside sleeping, essentially locking him into the box. Beyond those two points that probably should be considered, brilliant work.

I really love what you both do. Paying it forward. Your builds are great, changing peoples lives. I see your progression with the tinys, doing amazing. Peace and blessings. We can make so much with items that are discarded to help those in need, give them a personal space, protected and off the ground.🌍🙏

I like the Idea of the way you're building the tiny homes, I have a very bad tendency to over build when I build something, seeing how you're using the insulation board is a nice idea, and I really love the idea of using solar panels for power supply

Come on guys. He's a crackhead 😂😂 if he didn't sell it that first night, it was gone the second night for $100 piece of crack. He actually might have just sold the solar panel and battery and kept the tiny home for a few days but it's gone now all of it. The local drug dealer has it in his backyard so his kids can play in it now😂😂

He probably pawned or sold the electronics within days. And that is not a harsh critique; probably got more out of it personally.

Great ideas. I’d be adding locks for the wheels so someone doesn’t pull them away when they are inside… plus a lock inside for safety… also a window for some light… because it’s almost like an isolation box. Which isn’t good for the mental health of the homeless. It’s nice what you guys did but you can buy mini solar foldable panels to carry (very light and charges decent items) and 4 season tents to put in backpacks with 4 season sleeping bags… IMO - I’d prefer that if I was homeless. But this does inspire me to provide bags like these to our own homeless communities where I live. Just a few pointers… keep up the good work and hopefully with more donations you can up the quality a little more for mental health. But I totally get not providing something luxury for the homeless because we don’t want them to be homeless forever so it makes sense to give just the very very basics. Kudos ❤
@ORSkie Жыл бұрын
I agree with the window and lock ideas.

Jeezus, you really think people want to stay homeless so they can sleep right in their own coffins to expedite burial prn? I was a housing caseworker for over 25 years and people never figure it out that the homeless are us and we are only one physical illness or mental horror from being in their place. I can't help wonder how police and authorities will perceive this build- will they tow it off and impound it themselves when it's parked somewhere they don't want it? Will others be trying to steal the solar panels or even open it up like a can of soup? It's better than a tent but most homeless are families with children. There needs to be solutions like taxing the rich so social safety net programs can continue. They are always on the chopping block before defense budgets are..

The tent, sleeping bag, and foldable solar panel are a much better idea. Then they can be taken with, instead of left somewhere, hoping no one steals them while you're gone.

My faith in humanity just restored. I hope content creators are more like this. My suggestion though if you will do it again next time is you cut the door into two horizontally so the top part can be a window, very handy if he does need some natural lights. Also a foldable flip table outside on one side of the wall so it can serve as a table to cook and/or foldable bench or chair on the other side to just sit there and chill.
