Hey gang, totally got it wrong when I was talking about modified vs. unmodified. We probably shot that clip 3 times and I still screwed it up :( Thx to those of you who pointed out my error. Please see: www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/faq/shower-system-kerdi-thin-set-mortar-type We used Schluter All Set on this project; a modified thinset approved for use under and over their Kerdi products: www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/Setting-Materials/Schluter-ALL-SET%C2%AE/p/SET_ALL-SET

@@sroberds640 Exactly. They recommended unmodified at first. I guess somebody got to do a tear out and remodel on those showers I did 15 years ago. It was a steam shower so the entire enclosure including the ceiling was done with kerdi unmodified underneath. It was supposed to last a lifetime. Damn them. The kerdi band is to further insure the seam is covered from leaks. Hope they don't have a problem.

I'm not much on reverse laps with Kerdi. Even though they recommend doing the walls before the floor. I always do the floor first, then Kerdi band, then the walls. So it all overlaps, so it water ever did get behind it, it would overlap like doing a roof. I'm probably just over thinking it, and don't really trust thinset as a water tight seal. Enjoy the channel, from what I've seen you do great work. 👍

Hi guys. I've been watching your videos on bathroom renovation and I've learned quite a lot from it. I'm planning on renovating our main bathroom by removing the tub to allow my mother-in-law easy access to take a shower. Also, I'd like to remove the shower insert in our master bath. In doing so, I'd like to tile both bathrooms from; floors and walls. My question is, which direction do you recommend I take? 1) Should I chip out the slop, or 2) Utilize the Schluter slope pan? Obviously one go for the easiest process, but which do you recommend is best? The other thing is, I don't like to have a curb on the entry point on both bathroom. I prefer to install a glass wall/door. Your thoughts? Thanks for your advice in advance.

If I was just installing a drop in corner soaking tub that only has barely any frame overhang along the wall and 3” or less tile overhang on the front, is that amount of waterproofing really necessary under the tile surround? How much water could possibly splash out. Faucet is on the front side of the tub so water cant get trapped. Is what you are doing overkill?

I realize this is an older video but I just found your channel and I'm bing watching all your videos! What a team you are. You both do amazing work!! I have a Kerdi question! I was just about to pull the plug on a whole Kerdi system for my tub to shower conversion and I was looking at the Kerdi board. Do you see any major benefits to using cement board and the Kerdi membrane versus using the Kerdi board? I'm only doing 3x6 subway tiles on the shower walls so I am not supporting thick heavy tiles. I just think the Kerdi board will be easier for a DIY tile setter (me)😁hauling the boards up the tight staircase as well as the ease of cutting. I also think using the Kerdi bands to tape the seams and the screws will be easier than trying to mud the whole wall applying a membrane. Anyway thanks so much for a great channel and such informative content!

A question. That cement (you call it thinset...) you use, is it by nature waterproof? I always use a 50% mixture of water and 29Y40 (liquid latex, I only know it by that name, possibly in the states it's called something else. Google will tell you more) as my liquid component instead of just water, where waterproofing is needed. There ain't no water getting past that stuff. Whatever substrate the cement is going on to, I slush with pure 29Y40, makes it almost impossible to remove the cement when its dry, and give a good bit of flexibility to help prevent cracking.

I understand that you didn’t want to damage new shower flooring while you prepped the walls for tile. Has anyone tried the Guru system? It looks very similar to schulter product but is slightly cheaper. I wonder how it compares and worth trying?

Tile that bad boy. And that hand saw is a young man’s game. Get Jordan on that job Paul! Hahaha. Good stuff. Slick tip at the beginning and on the backer board slope.

Hi guys, I've been watching your videos and I've been learning a lot from it. I'm thinking about renovating our bathrooms. I want to remove the tub from our main bathroom and the shower insert

Love your production values and the soundtrack. I am assuming you guys are using royalty free music tracks, just curious about where you're getting them.

What about the celling in the shower hot steam and condensing on the ceiling/ water splashing will cause issues ( also looked like a short celling height, which only makes matters worse)

8 foot ceiling in the shower area. We're going to add an exhaust fan in the bathroom. Rarely see tiled ceilings in showers unless very low or a steam shower or a high end house.

I love the attention to detail! Great job. Only question I had was about the shower floor pan. Don’t you need to do that first so when you run the wall membrane, it would overlap the top of the pan membrane? Now, the wall will be behind the pan. If I explained that correctly? Lol.
@StudPack
@StudPack 3 жыл бұрын
Thx Chris! Schulter Kerdi does not need to overlap - that's part of the appeal of this system. It's REALLY difficult for me not to lap but if they're going to warranty the installation, I'm good.

@@StudPack ok, I guess I’ll wait to see how you connect the pan liner to the walls.

Use Ardex 8+9 for water proofing on top of the Schluter system, the Schluter system is not 100% waterproof. The Ardex 8+9 it is a two part A + B ready to tile the same day. I know it seems redundant but after seeing so many videos of rotten tear outs, doubling up seems like a good idea.

Out of curiosity, because I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm in the infant stages of planning my own bathroom remodel. Would it be more advantageous to run the Schluter the long way left-to-right, starting from the bottom, so that each higher course overlaps in a way that any water running down the wall couldn't possibly get behind the seam in the event the seam fails??

Shingle style is fine but Schluter doesn't require it.

If that 11/2" pvc pipe under the deck is the tub vent it is in violation of code. That vent can't go horizontal until it is 6" above the flood rim of the fixture.
