Tile tip from an old woman: Grab a handful of grout powder and keep it in a little sandwich bag. There is ALWAYS that one bubble in the grout line. Use your "spare" grout and keep yourself from buying $20 of another bag. Plus, there's no color variation either.

One tip from a plumber, always solder from bottom to top. It’s easier and faster because heat rises. This doesn’t make that much difference on a coupling but the less time with torch on the pipe the less heat goes up into the faucet.

It is called a whale tail. You can also make one from a drywall mud bucket lid cut in 1/3 popped on the bucket top and a hole cut for your shop vac hose to drop in while you mix. Either way def smart to have the dust extraction for mess and health reasons.

That was an enormous amount of work from demo to rebuild, and you, sir, are a true artisan who takes pride in every step of your work, never a shortcut, and even willing to redo a job if it doesn't meet your high standards. Well done! It looks fantastic, and I am sure the owners are going to be very happy. I just hope that they don't choose a dark paint color. That master bath is quite small and even with the window, it is quite dark especially since they went with darker tiles. And I know this is late, but going back to one of the first videos, I would have definitely oriented the tub parallel to the wall and extended the shower as much as possible. That diagonal orientation wastes a lot of space in such a small master bath for a tub which is rarely used compared to the shower (you can tell from how new that tub looks) and is not even a whirlpool.

I am absolutely loving your channel, I don't have any specific drill recommendations, but get the highest current rated one you can (also note if there is a duty cycle on it as well, you want that to be as high as possible). Generally, the larger the drill the larger the brushes and windings will be (assuming the same features), resulting in less heat to degrade the components over time. Also, I noticed there was dried primer on that one pipe out of the floor, and everyone should make sure that if the primer dries that it is re-primed before putting on the cement (it looked like you guys did do that). The main goal of the primer is actually to soften the PVC so the cement can properly bond the pipe/fitting together. It's basically just a chemical form of welding, so once the cement is cured it is a continuous piece of PVC. If the primer is dried, the surface of the PVC is no longer softened and the cement is unable to do its job properly, increasing the chances of leaking.
@StudPack3 жыл бұрын

I reside in the UK, i have watched this project to this point and seriously enjoyed the way you have installed every element, i've been fitting my own shower back in my bathroom; having retiled the whole room floor to ceiling over the last year. Covid 19 caused some delays of course for materials at certain stages, as i believe you've also had your grout choice of Mapei is excellent have used that myself but the premixed version, is like spreading butter into the joints compared to what people generally use tile adhesive/grout, their not the same thing as you know. Tile grout is exactly that nice and soft and cleans up great!! If you check your local flooring store that sells Schluter products, you can get L mold trims or Quadec trims and corners for tub decks, niches and side walls and a 1/2 inch Lmold for the transition between the Tile and the Hardwood, it finishes it off nice. A little concerned about having to remove the tub in the future. Could you have used compression fittings on the water lines? Also, could you have laid a sheet of plastic over the mortar before sitting the tub in place? The mortar would still conform to the bottom of the tub without adhering to the surface, allowing the tub to be lifted out easily in the future. You mentioned termite inspections in a previous comment and that got me thinking about making it difficult to pull the tub later on. New subscriber. Love this bathroom remodel series. After finishing them all, I plan on going back to watch the videos from the beginning of your channel.
@StudPack3 жыл бұрын

As for the torch, believe it or not, Harbor Freight has a nice one that's inexpensive. Puts out a nice hot flame. It seems to heat the pipe faster than any other torch tip I've owned. I'm actually on my second one, because, like a dummy, I left the first one out in the rain once. Not good. It did corrode quickly.
@Vrplumber3 жыл бұрын
Beautiful tub install. The only thing I would have done differently would be to use a rubber fernco coupling instead of a pvc coupling for the final tub connection. Makes it easier and can account for small variances in angle and alignment. Of course, plumbing codes are different everywhere, and where you are may not allow fernco fittings in this situation. As for torch recommendations, I have always used a full acetylene bottle, but that might be a bit overkill if you are only doing bits of plumbing here and there. The nice thing about the big bottle with the hose is the increase mobility it gives you in tight spaces.
@StudPack3 жыл бұрын
I like it Kevin. I’ll check with our plumbing inspector to see if they allow ferncos or no hubs. I used to have a large acetylene rig but you’re right it’s probably too much for what I need now.

I noticed your drill did what my drill did when I tried to use it to mix mortar. I don't understand why the drills don't work, my drill was made for cement and mortar mixing, I do not understand what I did wrong. You guys have any suggestions as to what drills are better at mixing?
@templebrown71793 жыл бұрын
If your drill was fairly new, you may have tried to go too fast too soon. Mortar is a colloidal slurry and until you get it moving, it is very thick, but as you get it started, it experiences shear and thins out a bit until it settles again and the particles pack once more. If you've used your drill for a while, it may be time to change the brushes if it's not too late. Changing the brushes too late can result in overheating due to arcing at the brushes and can melt the plastics holding the brush holders. The coils are usually still good, but you'll have a heck of a time with the brush holders if there was melting.
