Do it. I built a guitar two years ago that cheers me up every time I touch it. I took the lazy way out and bought the neck, but otherwise I did it myself, and it's one of the most rewarding projects ever.

Impressive how well some of these wrap around tailpieces intonate while some bridges with lots of travel can't get the get the guitar to play in tune lol. Great build, beautiful piece of sapele.

If you have intonation problems with a bridge that seemingly has saddle travel range for intonation setup, consider several things: nut slots too high (in first positions string is far away from the fret and you're actually bending to fret a note), too much relief in the neck (also need to press the string too far in 7-10th fret area plus string length is effectively shortened with a bent neck, also bowed neck with loose truss rod is less stable so might actually bend while you play), pickups too close to the string (too strong magnetic pull does weird things to how the string sounds like it's out of tune with itself, especially happens with Fender style single coils due to narrow magnetic field), frets not crowned properly (flattened frets make string take off point go towards the nut instead of fret center, can have sitar-like sound effect and needs more force to press the string so tendency to bend), or simply action too high (same as nut or relief, distance string to fret introduces note bending to even reach the fret), the method of setting intonation (some people have better results when checking and setting intonation with string played very lightly so there's less variation with initial attack, some have better results when playing it as they normally play with stronger strum), and finally: the playing technique is lacking (if you bend strings accidentally with left hand or drag your pick so hard through the strings with right that intial attack is like +25 cents on the tuner, your playing would sound out of tune even on a perfectly set up guitar with compensated nuts, true temperament frets and whatnot.

Fantastic build! Very Inspiring thank you for making this video! Is the body 1.75? And how did you get the neck pocket angle or was it cut from the neck template heel?This guitar through a 50 watt JCM 800 Marshall and 4x12 cab would sound Legendary! Using a CNC machine sure take's the fun out of the building process.Your Luthier skills are fantastic! This guitar was made with Love!
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 6 ай бұрын
Thank you, yes body is 1.75", the neck angle is cut onto the heel to make the neck pocket route easier. I've had this through my 100 watt JMP combo (same circuit as JCM 800) and it was epic :)

Sir, incredible craftsmanship! I've watched this a couple of times now and will watch it several more. I found my way here researching luthiers on KZbin. I am 37 years old, been playing guitar since I was 10. I have a had a dream to build a Les Paul style guitar since I was 15! Finally decided to start buying parts a few weeks ago. May I ask where you bought your Sapele wood from? Also, I was looking at a Janka Chart. I noticed that Aromatic Red Cedar has the same hardness as Honduran Mahogany. Also, a wood that piqued my interest was Osage Orange. Cedar and Osage Orange are readily available on my property, and I have a chainsaw mill and access to dry the wood. What are your thoughts/advice as far as using those woods. Would it be a complete waste of time? Therefore, should I just splurge and buy Mahogany? On a side note, I did purchase a neck, I am not that skilled yet. Another question, did I notice you routered the neck pocket at an angle or cut the neck heel at an angle? And what are your thoughts on the wrap around tail piece vs. the tune-o-matic stop bar tail piece? Also, I would rather have your guitar over a cookie cutter Gibson any day! \../

I’ve watched a lot of builds and this is the first one I’ve seen where you used coloured paint before adding a filler? Is there a reason for that? I was also curious what is the final weight as the body appears to be thicker than a normal tele style build? Cheers

awesome! It turned out really cool! Im planning to build a lp junior, but i have never built a guitar. im planning to buy a pre made stratocaster neck, because where i live there are no lp necks.Is it a bad idea, or will it work? And if i use a strat neck, where should i place the bridge?
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams
@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams 6 ай бұрын
There is no reason for it not to work, just place the bridge at the right scale length for your neck. Strat necks are usually 25.5 inch scale but check as that isn't always the case. The bridge placement is explained in detail in the build series for this guitar.
