This has been the most satisfying guitar building video I ever seen - and I’ve seen many. A real Zen And The Art Of Guitar Building - From Scratch. Thank you! 🙏

I thought for a second you were using a blue plastic icecreamscoop to clean the fretboard! Nice job again.

Are we still calling them tremelos in 2025? I worked in and on prisons erecting and maintaining security fencing during the '90s, it was a pain, it took an hour to get through security in a morning, we were not allowed to eat our lunch on site so it took time to get out again, then back in after lunch, and then out again at the end of the day, we were not allowed to skip lunch or breaks or risk losing our security clearance, it was cracking money but the jobs took forever, military bases were much better.

That was interesting and fun to watch.

A nice, fairly easy repair! My first thought was to use a Heli-Coil, but I see why that wouldn't work. I had no idea that you could get a bar with a larger diameter. I'd would have had to just buy the Fender replacement block because I don't have the tap, chamfer and de-burring tools at hand.

That’s the hybrid set of strings I like! Put them on all my electrics. I’m older and that 9, is good for me to bend. Always like as much low I can get, hince 46ers on the bottom. Bravo! I was a little concerned about the size of hole and threads you did because of the thin walls of metal around the new hole. If you pull down too aggressively on the arm it might blow the wall out. You know all that and this guitar may not be subject to that. It is as good a fix as any! Thanxz

Stressful gigs are the worst. We were playing New Year's Eve (just a few days ago). We were debuting a new 90's set of material, so we were already a little more nervous than usual. 15 minutes before midnight, we were between sets, and a bar fight broke out, and a young man was stabbed and died. We all went from excited for the new year countdown to tearing down as fast as possible while in shock, because the cops wanted to lock the place down as a crime scene. One of the worst starts to the year I could've imagined.

You could have made a brass trem block you definitely have the skills Patrick , i had a Harley Benton ofset guitar and lost the trem ( a push in type always too loose) i bought one from Amazon that sort of worked but again too loose so i put a kink in it and it works great now ,( i no longer have it i gave it too my cousin's granddaughter who's a 15 year old music nut who WhatsApps me asking questions every few days lol . Looking forward to the next build happy New build .🤘😀😀

Epoxy putty or jb weld would also be an option in the worst case.
A great repair Patrick. I hope you managed to get Mrs Shed's toothbrush back in the bathroom before she noticed it missing!

Really enjoyable to watch - so much nicer without music (as so many KZbinrs do). Just wondering that now that the binding is on (I’ve not watched ahead yet) but would painting the guitar before binding be easier?

I still wonder why Gibson has not made a production model out of sapele.

Pat, congratulations, that is amazing news and obviously deeply meaningful. Thanks for sharing your accomplishment. It certainly resonated with me. My dad was born working class in London in 1930 and -if I’m understanding your meaning right- he struggled with the same limited educational opportunities you described. He ended up in America

Gorgeous with a capital "G". The only change I would make would be to have a gloss black pickguard plate. That would really set off the chrome of the neck pickup and would make the guitar look a lot more baddass! Alternatively, a white pearloid pickguard would be a nice compromise that would retain somewhat of that premium classic Tele look for the traditionalists. Cheers from the Land Down Under.

Great content as usual. Don't really see what the problem is with relic'ing a guitar. It's really only altering the visual look of the instrument rather than aging the actual base materials of the instrument. Unless of course you are replacing any of the main components of the instrument with original old components. Cheers.

Have you ever put the 0,022 feeler gauge under the pencil when you mark the nut? That way, you can cut the slot to the bottom of the pencil line, knowing you've not gone too low..
@jeffdoyle061185 күн бұрын
In a number of builds in the past I have seen you use a feeler gage stack right at the nut (thickness equal to fret height plus expected gap) and then you just file until you start to touch the gage stack. That seems like such a sensible approach to avoid the file some > check often approach. I was wondering why you chose not to use that approach this time. This is a lovely p-bass.

I own a 1992 made in Japan Sqiuer Precision bass. It’s white with a rosewood fretboard and a white pick guard. It is a 32” scale and I used round wound strings for years until 2015 when I painted ir a cherry burst, switch pickups for some DiMarrzio humbuckers, and put on some ground wound strings. It was unbelievable the difference! No more hum, it looks fantastic but the combo of the pickups and the strings makes this an extremely high output bass machine! I have to keep my amp volume low not to go into overdrive! The strings are smooth yet bright! Your bass remin ds me of mine. Thanxz

this doesnt sound like a telecaster...but anyway good job
@karmicselling42523 күн бұрын
Sounds exactly like a Telecaster with that sort of pickup combination. The typical twang sound that is the signature sound of a Tele is as much a function of the effects chain and amp being used as it is the actual instrument. Put this next to a Fender Tele running into the same signal chain and amp you would be hard pressed to tell the difference.
