Let me know what you think of this board, I plan on doing more bigger boards this year to hopefully pull over the 40 haters to handwiring😂
@Dajan4567 ай бұрын
i would say it doesnt matter that much as you can apply the same process to building a bigger one just the same right?
@joe_scotto7 ай бұрын
@@Dajan456 Yeah, it's just more work for bigger boards. I just want to have more designs that more people would be interested in.

I have a design for a keyboard that I want to create, but I'm not sure how to, I just made it. Might need to have a combination of mechanical switches and membrane just to get it right though. I'm not really willing to give in to the 'it's not possible crowd' or sacrifice the way it looks. It's a totally new keyboard layout. I don't have the money to create it atm, and I don't have the skills or knowledge or the tools, so I can't 3D print a prototype or anything. "/ Maybe I might learn soldering and do some hardwiring, but I still need a case for it to be in. "/

Could you make a video on how to connect two microcontrollers for the spilit keyboard. I saw somewhere people were using 3.5mm jack, but I couldn't find exact explanation how that works

still waiting for your new handwire board , Do you think you will build an dactyl or something curve like that?

Right on time! Im currently using my lily58(wireless) at home and in the office and I need a dedicated keyboard in the office and this is the perfect office/on the go keyboard Thanks for sharing this build

Really nice! I've been following your videos and some others to make my own split keyboard. It's definitely a challenge bigger than i expected but i can't wait for it to be done. Cheers!

11:20 Bro, in one of older videos you had the speed of 60 WPM. The improvement is crazy.

Yeah but I’ve been at a pretty hard plateau of about 100 for a while now

Yo do u have any videos on how you do your wiring? Im in awe, it looks likes somer crazy future geometric plumbing matrix with all the care taken in the world for each solder just like a true welder might take lots of care to work on getting beautiful/almost art welds all over a passion project.
@sparktite3 ай бұрын
I did not know u could even do anything that could look like that is it just really small copper wire gauge? And just super solid wire?

I have a full video covering it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/npvQnWCBYtWJaqc

Would be interested in a wireless very portable (maybe foldable) keyboard which would be perfect for traveling and commuting

I’ve toyed with the idea of foldable but more splits are sooner.

indeed this is column-staggered, but not ortholinear. They're mutually exclusive as ortholinear means the switches are on a grid with no stagger (column or row)
@joe_scotto5 ай бұрын
Somewhere along the road I forgot that ortho meant a grid lol

Hey Scotto, the videos are great, been learning a lot. Are you getting straight copper or are you using something to straighten it at home?
@joe_scotto7 ай бұрын
You can just twist the wire with a vise and a drill to straighten it.

hi thanks for the video, I did build this and the qwerty firmware is colemak, try with both in GitHub, but both give me colemak layout, could you please help
@rosly_yt6 ай бұрын
8:45 nice, fellow colemak user. Do you actually use your caps lock as a capslock? Mine is bound to backspace on all my computers.
@joe_scotto6 ай бұрын
Colemak is the best and I use enter where caps lock is on layouts with a 6th column. I mostly just use my 30% keymap though so I only use like 40 of the keys.

@@joe_scottoah ok, makes sense. I mostly use laptop keyboards, so I'm stuck with how the keyboard was built.

I just watched all your vids and this is good material for starting my own build. But the thing is I planned on using an ESP32 with V-USB and another ESP-NOW supported board for tri-mode but I don't see anyone using it neither is it supported by QMK firmware. Could anyone tell me why?

Do you use any soldering oil? I've just started building my second KB, and I've got oil everywhere that happens to be conductive somehow (next time I'd remind myself to find non-conductive ones). I still can't clean it thoroughly and it got on my MCU, so matrix is all f-ed up...
@BriZ3l215 ай бұрын
can you use the little pcb of a membrane keyboard and connect it in the same way of the matrix ? because its already programmed and where I live the price of an Arduino is half a keyboard
@semputs7 ай бұрын
Awesome video as always! Just wondering, is there a reason why you separate the switch plate with the case? I design my keebs to be in a single body so I have the smallest but jankiest builds. Just found out the keeb I built a few weeks ago had cracks on the thinner parts of the body and there's a noticeable bending. Doesn't affect functionality and typing feel tho. And maybe not a good place to ask, but have you thought about selling your STL and firmware files before instead of giving them out for free? Thought of doing that.
@joe_scotto7 ай бұрын
By separating them it allows me to get better prints mostly. If I was to do a fully integrated plate, which I have done before, it requires tons of supports. You can get around this by doing exposed switches, but I think that doesn't look as nice. The handwired project is always going to remain free, I sell prints of the files on my site but don't ever plan on charging for the handwired files.

Why use a Nice! nano?
@joe_scotto7 ай бұрын
I needed 20 pins for the matrix and the nice!nano has 21. It’s also wireless.
