You know, I actually really like this shuttle. It being and old republic era model fit´s really well in a transitional place for ship design. It still has the smoother rounded and fancy lines of the republic area, but is also quite chunky and features emergent elements of the very utilitarian and "coarse" design of the imperial era, with for example it´s cockpit being close to what we see in later corellian ships like the model line that the famed Milenium Falcon is part of.

Dear M&M, you are reason I have gotten back into 3D printing and painting, and also the reason I want to drive into a bridge at 100mph because I will never be able to do the things you do LOL. This model is amazing, the folks over at ILM should be paying attention!

That is a bad-ass piece!! The clear cockpit with the interior details was just chef's kiss!! When I saw the size in the thumbnail, I thought sure you'd be going FDM, but with all that detail SLA really was the only way to go. And I absolutely agree with you about paint layers creating that almost imperceptible depth to a piece. It gives the piece character and makes it seem more real. Thanks for sharing this one with us!!

I really like this project ! I’m a fan of your usual prop builds, but this one is sort of a crossover between prop making and miniature painting, which is my favorite hobby, and I’m here for it ! You also did an amazing job on this ship, it really looks like the original prop from the show and now I want to make my own 😂

I think the words for the panelling detail is that it added contrast to show depth and highlight the shadow, as it were. On Earth, there is light essentially coming from just about every surface and angle. But in Space, a ship is only going to have significant amounts of light on it from a few sources, so it's going to look different. And the "grime" or panelling that you added is a substitute for that kind of lighting. -Really nice job on the cockpit, by the way! That looks awesome! :)

What i always do for my props when it comes to painting over masking tape is that i spray the base coat again but this time over the tape as well. Doing this prevents the top coat from bleeding underneath the tape and gives the props a much cleaner look and sharper edges after you remove it.
@rOEN9112 ай бұрын
thats very nice ,if you want a tip about the uv filler use clear resin because uv will penetrate all the way down and you dont risk cracking after because some time it does then if you want the final layer use the same grey resin just to blend it in ! I had an old clear resin that came with the printer and thats the only use for me !

@@MMsPropShop Thanks for the reply, and thanks for the reminder earlier about print orientation. I think it fixed my J5 issue. @MMsPropShop2 ай бұрын
Thanks! The 0.2 nozzles are definitely better at capturing detail, they still can’t hold up to what you can achieve with a resin printer though. All of these parts were printed at 0.05mm layer heights and I don’t even know if I could calculate what the millimeter equivalent would be for the pixel density.

Awesome job! Incredible work as always. I did have a few questions about the resin. I am a devout user of the Elegoo 2.0 resin for it's strength, but I have heard some people say that the 3.0 isn't nearly as strong. Did you ever use the 2.0 and how do you think the 3.0 compares? Did you get the feeling it was brittle or less flexible? And how was the smell by comparison? I've heard it has lower VOC properties (which appeals to me but not if it will be more breakable).
@MMsPropShop2 ай бұрын
I don’t believe I ever have used the 2.0. I was a devout 1.0 user, haha! I didn’t go out of my way to try breaking and bending the pieces so I’m not sure I can give you a full informed opinion on it. The small turret guns that I added at the very end I did mess around with a bit and they seemed to have that slight flexibility to them that I would expect from ABS like resins. It could possibly be due to over exposure? I would always use 2.9 seconds per layer with the 1.0 version and if I did the same with the 3.0 I could see that making the pieces overly brittle. The 3.0+ might be your answer if you’re particularly concerned about strength and flexibility. I would say it has less of a noticeable scent compared to the original. I’ve gotten so used to the various smells of resins that I don’t think I process them anymore lol

Don't you worry the isopropyl alcohol is carcinogens? What safety do you have in place using isopropyl alcohol? I want to do resin printing but worried about the safety aspect and long term problems.
@MMsPropShop2 ай бұрын
Isopropyl alcohol is absolutely not a carcinogen. Its biggest hazard is probably how flammable it is. It’s quite drying so you don’t want it to be coming into direct contact with your skin for prolonged periods of time, especially when it starts to get dirty from the resin. There are cleaning alternatives though, 99% IPA is just one of the cheapest and easiest to source. It’s the resin itself that can be far more toxic, although there are varying opinions on how much of a concern it should be. I’d do more research on the resin and learn from people far more qualified than me to give you safety advice.
@jasoncombs32322 ай бұрын
I prefer ABS like 2.0 3.0 is more brittle with less flex.
