I have built this kit and have just a few tips for people who want to build this kit. 1. Make sure you leave all of the exterior details off before you attach the body to the chassis, 2. The body is extremely difficult to fit on to the chassis so get some practice before you paint everything, 3. Leave the wheels off the car when you attach the body to the chassis, it makes it a lot easier. All of these mistakes I made, but in the end I still got a good result at the end so don't worry if you have made these mistakes.

Yes, I have Built this kit,, and Unbuilt it as well, ( if you know what I mean) I had trouble w/ the windows ( mostly the side windows, ) also it seemed to be a Very tight interference fit Between the chassis fitting into the body.i have put it aside for now until a later time. Thank you for sharing@

it does have some issues, for sure. It is pretty tight to try and get the body onto the chassis and this seems like the biggest complaint people have.

The kit is as old as the car itself, it got launched shortly after the car got launched and has never been updated to my knowledge. Even so it's a great kit considering it's age and the actual car is beautiful, especially dat ass. The kit is tricky in a couple of places but nothing crazy. Fun fact: I bought it for 14 euros but it retails everywhere for 24, also in the shop I got it from, so apparently it was a pricing error to my advantage.

Nice score on the price. It is an old kit but I think it has aged well and would still be considered a very good build. As you say, tricky in a few places.

Great build, I am interested in the paperclip hinge system you created for the rear bonnet, wish you had a short video showing how you did this, I think it is fantastic build, and a great add on for real function, instead of Tamiya's design if sitting there on the kit. Enjoyed the video!
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video. I do wish I filmed more of the hinge but unfortunately I didn't think about it at the time. The process is pretty painless and essentially the part glued into the body is just a piece of sprue with a hole drilled into it. The wire is bent into the shape needed and the wire was glued directly to the trunk lid. If you want to see a little more of this type of work, watch my corvette indy video and I actually show a lot closer how I hinged the trunk and doors on that kit. Hope that helps.

Cool job lad! What colour did you use for the interior of the Porsche?
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 2 жыл бұрын
The interior was a mix of orange and tan in a 2:1 ratio. I have used this to other ratios in builds as well and you can also sub different types of tan, like a deck tan or even a skin tone tan to get variants in the color.

Very nicely done! I have just received this kit and have read a couple of reports that the body is extremely difficult to mount to the chassis. You didn't appear to have much difficulty doing so. Did you find it difficult and can you please comment on how you made it look fairly easy .
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 2 жыл бұрын
yes, the body is a little tight. You need to go in with the rear part of it first and then slowly bring the rest together. The sides need to be pulled outward slightly to fit over the chassis. With some care, it can be done no problem. I would suggest trying it a few times with the bare body and unassembled chassis just to get a feel for how it goes together.

I've had the kit sitting in a box for many years. Now I am getting back into the hobby... but man having a tough time figuring out the colors schemes. Especially the interior.....Greys and blues with black dash..... tan and browns and white....or simply black with grey and white seats....argggg....cool build really cool kit. By the way what did you use to strip the paint off the body. I have a couple of kits I started many years ago and they need the same treatment. Acrylic paint. Did you use easy off?

Whenever I build anything I always do a lot of research before hand. I will spend half a day with Google and just search for the type of vehicle I am going to build and when I see something I like, I refine my search. For this one I found a page where they rebuilt a red version of the car into this silver/blue color with the tan interior and dark wheels. I thought it looked good so downloaded as many images I could find of it and studied them. I tend to do this for all my builds so that I can get a good idea of color schemes and sort of a what works and what doesn't feel. KZbin is also a great resource for ideas on specific subjects. As for the paint removal, yes, just oven cleaner. It was all arcylic paint and it took 2 sprays to remove almost all the paint off. I have heard of others using agents like Purple Power or Brake Fluid to remove paints and have had success without doing damage to the plastic.

Cool build! Why’d you paint it and then remove the paint? Never seen that before. Also, what did you use to attach the wing and engine cover before painting?
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 2 жыл бұрын
It may be hard to see in the video but there was a really bad reaction in the paint and it all cracked and wrinkled after the clear coat so I had to strip all the paint and try again. The engine cover is attached with small hinges made from wire and pieces of sprue.

What are you use at 11:12 to remove a paint? And actually what was the reason you decide to remove it?
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 3 жыл бұрын
It is a little hard to see on a phone or smaller device but the scene preceding this tried to look at the body after clear coat where the clear wrinkled so bad it ruined the paint underneath as well. I then had to strip it and start again. I used regular oven cleaner, let it sit for a few hours and then under the tap. I actually did the process twice to get as much paint off as possible. Second paint went on no problem and the clear didn't react badly at all. Who knows what happened....

@@ScaleAutoGarage Thanks a lot! I need to try this method. To this point I used to sink entire model in wamod cleaner. Spraying with oven cleaner - I would never figure it out! I guess this is better and more effective than sink all model in it wamod.
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I have heard of other methods as well, in the US there is a product called purple power and I have seen many swear by this product. I have also heard people use brake fluid but this can make the plastic brittle and you definitely can't use it on resin. I do all my painting using Tamiya products and so they are quite easy to work with and the oven cleaner works pretty good and is easy to obtain. Just be sure to wear a respirator and be in a well vented environment.
@marchewaNH
@marchewaNH 3 жыл бұрын
@@ScaleAutoGarage sorry to trouble you again but can you tell me what is a name of a product you use (oven cleaner you mention) ? I tried two different I found but none of them reacts with paint
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@marchewaNH The product I used is called easy off but it should work with any oven cleaner. I use Tamiya acrylic paint and the oven cleaner works with that but if you are using enamel or maybe some other paints the oven cleaner may not work as well. You may have to go with something more powerful. I did have to do it more than once to get all the layers off, and maybe you need to let it sit overnight to really sink into the paint.

Thank you. Is regular silver X-11. I watched your video again of you painting the car body. Is that a layer of gray primer that you put down first. I am not sure what was used for the black paint coat. Was that primer or a black base coat.
@jonathanedwards3143
@jonathanedwards3143 2 жыл бұрын
At minute 10:33 I think the black paint is actually the blue. The lighting might have confused me.
@ScaleAutoGarage
@ScaleAutoGarage 2 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanedwards3143 yes the x-11 is just the plain silver, I just couldn't recall the number off the top of my head. 😅 This body gave me a lot of problems and was actually stripped twice and I even once tried to paint it all grey instead of the blue silver and even that didn't work out so some of the edits may be confusing in the video. Final paint was grey primer, flat black base, then the blue silver. I did 3 coats of the blue silver but just a single coat of primer and a single coat of the flat black. All the paint is the Tamiya acrylic thinned out of the jars. As it was stripped twice because the paint wrinkled it was beginning to layer in certain areas where the primer wouldn't come off and I kind of just wanted to get it done so my last attempt was kinda quick but it ended up super nice in the end. Hope that helps explain. If you have any other questions just hit me up!!

Thank you for watching my video! Glad you enjoyed it. I also use Tamiya glues, both the thin and the regular but I do also use superglue. The Tamiya glue will ruin the paint so it is best to use it only on bare plastic. When there is paint, clear or chrome I usually use Bob Smith Industries Super Gold Plus as this is a little slower drying than regular super glue and does not fog clear parts. The blue blob that I use for the windows is poster tack putty. You can do a google search for that and you will see what it is. It is sticky and reusable so it is great for putting windows into place. Hope that helps!!
