Eh, it's a Lamborghini, they're probably just doing it so they can hold their solid gold Apple watch out the window for everyone to see. Yeah, we see your watch, we also know that technology will be dated in 6 months and almost obsolete in 3 years. How much was it you paid for your $400 worth of technology? Oh, $15 000? That's pretty sweet... Or, you know, they might have just been stoked about seeing a 959. Who are we to judge?

@@greybush919 well for sure isn't and not sold in the U.S. it is just a reponse to the at the time built F40 from Ferrari that only had the things absolutelly necessary to be driven , no interiors no window of glass to be opened, one piece of thread to open the door , no interiors at all but soon after porshe released this numbered edition car that had all interiors complete ,even as a joke engeniers talked about the high-end sound system and much faster than the striped F40 , sold instantelly and being numbered , in the U.S. wanted 3 cars to destroy so they can meet U.S. standarts but porshe said NO , they were selling to fast by big money to send 3 cars to be destroyd so no new fastest car in the world for the U.S. , one thing that i never understood is what standarts are those any U.S. car built today except the corvette ,no longer a chevrolet ,only corvette with the two flags crossed that it seems not built in the U.S. this because all other cars are so bad built ,they for sure look good but like the camaro or chalenger looking like old 70's cars cant turn as good as the cheapest toyota even the prius would win in any competition excluding the 400 meters straight race where they are better but not considered an automotive sport ,why don't they aply those standarts in internal production , in my age i would like to buy a camaro but the first time i tried one i even thought that the car had fallen from a truck but no it was just like they were built ,i had my passion for late 60's early 70's U.S. cars and had some ,and win a lot of money buying them to be sold in Europe where no one had heard of a fuel crisis or to young growing up to worry about some teatrical fuel crisis ,no stop by the pump workers asking for better paid work so what crisis in the U.S. still today there are the biggest petrol reserves , at the time i didn't undersyand and today i'm not going to loose my time left in this world to think about it , but this car only several years after was dethroned by the maclaren F1 the car with 3 seats one in the midle and two by each side a bit behind that not even the veiron can beat at least in the first km or miles , in top speed is faster but till then maclaren rules and not only with the mid 90's model , but if a exclusivelly F1 champion brand produces a few cars to be driven on the road for sure will be faster not the most beautifull cars but they do work , to end i want to refer the civic crx the first 90"s model only 1.6L with 16 valves in-line four cylinder if in good condition can leave behind any last ten years remakes of known " muscle cars" in a circuit with turns that needs a good driver to corner them fast would win with a civic crx but the lowest engine in the series ,i know because i tried it , a friend had just restored one honda civic from 1990 with no change in the engine to super turbo charged 7 L V8 engines ,like the english says , " it's a laugh" and when younger i bought a mercury cougar 69 7 L engine V8 all black if memory doesn't fail me it was a RX 7 but i make confusion with the 80's fords xr3 i 1.6 L escort what a car that was or the fiesta RS 1600 ,and on top the Sierra cosworth wich was a 4X4 car ,in-line engine and was the winer of the GT championship a Ford developed in Belgium , thats a great car compared with new others fro. the same brand in th U.S. .Off course the shelby cobra mustang ,recent model when one enters one it feels like those early computer games with litle lights all over but to buy one ,theres maybe a 100 cars first on the list , one doesn't need to know how to drive the car computer makes it for you, nice one christmas tree style , regards and health

You all know that most people that own something like a Lamborghini know what the hell a 959 is, right? It's a super rare supercar that's worth over a million dollars, it's not a secret what it is. They are pulling up going "holy shit that's a freaking 959" and half or more of them are going " I wish I could afford to buy that", because a $250,000 Huracan is a long way off from a million dollars or more. There are few people into cars that don't know about the original gods, the 959, F40 and McLaren F1.

@Doug DeMuro Thanks Doug - excellent video!! A few points here: 1. The "Gelaende"-gear is not for Off-roading, it was done to make it street-legal in Germany back then. The Noise is measured IIRC at third gear, 4000rpm. So, it was tested in fourth gear instead of third and the car passed barely. For the pronounciation of "Gelaende" think of "Gelende" as the "e" in "Porsche" which you spoke spot-on. 2. The anti-theft sticker made sense back then, in the 90ies the crappy stock radio of my neighbor's 1987 VW Polo got stolen which had a value of 10DM at best. Whoever did it was addicted to heroine for sure - today addicts get methadone legally, that's why thefts went down significantly. 3. The first aid-kit and everything in it is required by German law, although the packing has become more compact today. But these things are still available over here. Greetings from Germany!!

Quite right. Back in the early noughties, I had a little more money than most my age. Not a great deal, but enough. I was on holiday in Spain, , and walked past a little shop, with quite a few people inside and a slightly upmarket look to it. In the window was a nice looking little chess set that I wanted to buy. I saw the price tag, could afford it. (it was about £70 iirc) and I walked in with my 'tourist' clothes to purchase. Woman at the counter immediately came round and pretty much pushed me out of the shop. Walked way a bit annoyed, because I can guarantee I could afford anything they had in there.

Sorry, Doug... I have to differ on your scores again. To me, the 959 is THE most beautiful modern car ever made. The only cars that give it a run for the money are the gull wing Mercedes 300, and the Bugatti 35B. The latter being the most beautiful car ever! Between the Mercedes and the 959, I pick the 959. It's prettier than the Carrera GT, even. That's in my top 5 all-time, as is the 917. Then the 918/919, the Ferrari Testarossa, the F40, then the Corvette split back window cars, and then my personal favorite line: the Porsche 944 turbo & 968. (of which I own a 951) I forgot to mention another car that can challenge the 959 for beauty and sexiness, the Ferrari California from like 1960. However, the 959 is so sexy, with the various curves in all the right places. Not many cars did that with their design, and still looked good! All the cars I have listed here, beautiful as they are, have straighter edges and lines. None evoke the female form better than the 959, all the while yet appearing to be high tech with a very low CD. No other car does this. Even the spoiler on the back uses this design theme to the epitome of excellence! This, along with being a very relavent car in automotive history, will keep the values going up and up. While other Porsches are significant, the 959 is the best, IMHO. (Okay, maybe just IMO.🤣)

@@Oscar-fi1ev Sure, if you ignore all context of what he says and does in that part of the video, and solely focus on the word "fast", you could say he was talking about top speed rather than acceleration. A few years ago, I worked at the Orlando International Airport in FL. I worked on the Emirates airline account as a ramp lead. We routinely had some serious super cars coming in on that flight in the cargo bay that we had to unload like a few Lamborghini's and McClarens. But the car I will never ever forget for as long as I live was the White Porsche 959. And it was one of those rare stripped down versions Doug mentioned in this video. It even had a roll cage inside. As the ramp lead, I was the one who was trusted to go inside and steer the car out. I knew exactly how special the car was soon as I saw it. I knew what a 959 was and I told my agents to be extremely careful not to scratch this car. I still have photos of it on my phone. It was the highlight of my time at that job.

I owned and drove a 959 Komfort model for many years using it frequently. I was the 2nd owner and I knew the first owner and history. When I bought it the car needed some work which was accomplished with the help of PCNA and a really good old school Porsche Tech. It took some doing but eventually the car was extremely well sorted out. I also lived on a dirt road. My favorite memory is driving down the paved road at speed (100+ mph) and turning onto the dirt road changing the torque split and raising the car in mid turn. Fun. However, the hydraulic suspension was questionable at speed. I was afraid to drive it at speeds over 150 mph and don't even think about the track. G is first gear. I believe the first aid kit may have been a German road registration requirement. There is very little room under the front bonnet. Your test car didn't have the tool kit, tire pump, service manual etc. which lives there. The torque multiplying center lock wrench is really cool. The cab always seemed maybe 10% smaller than a 911 of the same period hence the tightness you experienced. Notice the lack of rain gutter..the cab is not 911. The "S" model is a decontented Komfort model not an "RS" Instead of hydraulic (lift) suspension it uses double coil-overs which made the car a significantly better handling car. And yes, most "S" models eliminated the right side mirror. But I recall the rear view mirrors (both) as the best rear view mirrors, for whatever reason, in any car I had owned previously or since. In driving an "S" I missed it. I loved owning the car. I loved seeing it in the garage. But I don't miss driving it. It was so complicated and parts were unobtainable. I often felt I was in a ticking time bomb. One more piece of trivia. The service manual contained instructions for making the test box which was necessary to reset the suspension and diagnose issues. If the suspension or anything else was out of whack there were all sorts of buzzers and lights to warn you. My test box was made with Radio Shack stuff and was never anywhere near Weissach.. When you plugged it in, depending on the test or problem, the manual instructed you what buttons to push in a complicated sequence with the answers showing up as a series of complicated blinking (warning) dash lights almost like "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." It was somewhere between analog and digital but it did work.

The reason you can write your name and lincense plate in the booklet is also very german: In case you do help in an accident with your kit and it gets "used", you can get a refund from the insurance of the person you are helping. Doug - with 7000 comments, probably someone has already addressed this: That First Aid Kit is nothing special. Over here in the land of the Autobahn we have a "Good Samaritan" law that requires witnesses of a traffic accident to stop and assist. That is why all registered vehicles (4 wheels and more) are required to have a First Aid Kit built to spec. They are "DIN" normed as a minimum and they are almost all exactly that size. That is why it fit so perfectly in the slot made for it. If you think about a bad accident (the 70s and 80s were a mess out on the Autobahn before ABS and airbags and crash proofed cars), this kit is not overdone at all. It also makes tons of sense to let people personalize their kit with name and vehicle plate number. You can leave it at the scene and the cops will have a litte more info about who stopped and assisted and possibly witnessed the event. Pretty smart, actually. Not much different today - with the addition of a foil space blanket. The old kits from the 70s even had smelling salts in them, lol. First Aid Kits are recommended for Motorcycles too, but right now there isn't a law requiring them.
@Peter-pv8xx
@Peter-pv8xx 5 жыл бұрын
Having a first aid kit without proper first aid training is like having a set of the best automotive tools and barley knowing what a screw driver is for, a layman can do more harm than good with either, there have been doctors and nurses who have stopped to help in accidents and wound up with a big lawsuit on their hands instead of thanks for saving a life, you can't be forced to be a good Samaritan most people wouldn't have the nerve or stomach to see the aftermath, better off leaving it to the trained professionals, another thing some people have become victims themselves by stopping especially on busy highways, they have been struck and killed trying to help, even the act of simply helping someone change a tire has led to someone being killed.
@Yootoob62
@Yootoob62 5 жыл бұрын
@@Peter-pv8xx I agree with you 100%. However, this is Germany and they have their rules for a reason. Every licensed driver has to take and pass a first aid course and they are taught that any help is better than no help. I have also never heard of anyone being sued for assisting - probably because there is a law that states you must. Obviously, if you are puking your guts out because the accident scene is so gruesome - then you can't offer much assistance anyways, right?

The gear G was actually intended to be used as first gear and had a short ratio for quick launches. But because of regulations, certain emission and noise measuring had to be done in first gear in order to get the car road legal. The 959 would have violated these regulations in gear G so they called the second gear first gear, lowering the revs.

I read in a book many years ago, so who knows for sure, that "G" gear was originally 1st gear but the 959 violated some laws in European countries as to how loud a car can be taking off from a stop in 1st, so Porsche got creative and simply relabled the gears to make 1st into "G", 2nd into 1st, etc., to pass the test. There was also something about the spokes of the wheels being hollow or something like that which was interesting too.

There is a "G" (Gelände) gear because of noise level regulations. Bullseiify yea that’s not a cheat it’s a workaround which is why it wasn’t a secret. A device that is not known to anyone especially testing agencies and is hidden from them & is only a factor when testing is in place is a cheat. This gear didn’t disappear when noise testing was completed, owners could use that gear if they wanted to. Big difference, the difference between potential jailtime or not. Lol.
