This deck is looking really cool.

Deck looks great! I love the detail in the check-ins. Some time lapse on parts would make it awesome. The video felt long because of the length and format. I love building decks so otherwise I loved it. Keep up the good work. Can you do a video about hiring and managing crews/jobs?

I appreciate your feedback John. You bring up some interesting points. As of last week, I'm no longer a site foreman running a crew, as I have been promoted to project manager overseeing multiple crews/jobs. So since I'm not on site every day to film the project, I don't know how it would look going forward to film our projects. I have some ideas, and actually just mentioned to my boss the other day about maybe starting a channel for our company.

@@thebedfords Congratulations! I just found your channel yesterday. I'm looking forward to watching a different deck build you did. Hopefully there could be more in the future. I listened to a podcast by Contractor Evolution that said about getting your guys on-site involved especially if you're a PM. Even using pictures like you did in the q&a would be a great way to walk through a progression of your previous day. Cheers to your success!

@@johnangelilli1164 I do believe there is one more deck build on the channel after this one. Regarding all the rest-buy-in from the team is huge. Have you heard of The Modern Craftsman podcast? I’ve been really digging that one. My brother (who is also my boss and part owner of the company) has been listening to it for several years, and it has had a huge impact on changes he’s made to how we do things. We also use BuilderTrend if you’ve heard of that. One of the many awesome features is our site teams can (and it is required) upload daily logs with pictures and other pertinent information at the end of every day for those of us on the management side to stay informed.

Back again with another question Buddy. I'm going to install a fireplace on my porch. Does my framing lumber in that area of the porch have to be LVL or Glulam to support that stone Fireplace it or am I good to fo with just my 2x10 pressure pressure treated spaced 12" OC?
@thebedfords2 жыл бұрын
Not something I can answer for sure in your case. Probably something your building department/engineer would answer, based on the weight involved. For us, we just doubled up the 2x8 joists under it. I think it was the first 4. They stayed 16” OC.

How did you figure out that was what was needed? I'm learning and growing in design. Also, do you sub out design work to someone you typically work with?

what stain did you end up using for the reclaimed wood? that your friend recommended
@thebedfords2 жыл бұрын
He actually recommended talking to the people we got the wood from, and my recollection is they gave us a couple different products to use. We didn’t actually stain the reclaimed lumber, we used a penetrating sealer that ended up giving the wood a nice amber color. I think it also functioned similar to an epoxy, where it penetrated and hardened that outer layer of the wood, so it would stay protected for a long time.

I would like to know how much this cost?
@thebedfords Жыл бұрын
A lot :) I prefer not to disclose publicly how much clients paid for their jobs.
