WOW YOU ARE SCOTT BAKER!!!! I talked to you a couple of times back in the early 1990s!! KEWL BEANS!

I bought the PCB for this many years ago, along with the CPU and disk controller. Thanks for the video, this has given me the motivation to finally get off my lazy butt and start building it.

Hi Scott I've been looking at buying one of these for a while now and it looks very interesting. Having bought several RC2014's and using some of your modules, I think it's time to look at another project like this. I like all your retro computing vids as you have a way of grabbing people's attention and teaching them without them realising it. Another great vid there Scott and I can't wait to see what other peripherals you come up with. 😀😀😀😀😀😀Kim😀😀😀😀😀😀

probably slow because of your baud rate being set to 9600 drawing whole screens of text tends to be a bit slow down there.

the basic executes the written text by pressing F2 ! Look under the commands listed on the bottom of the screen. This is an editor environment, not a shell.

Hehe, I too recall old-school computers being much faster. But slowing printing down was also cool, so I understand.

Nice. That looks like its a pc104 card connector. What is exposed on there isa i assume?
@UpLateGeek6 жыл бұрын
Only 96 pins, and the layout looks pretty weird on the schematic, so not likely PC104 (although that would've been nice). Should have all the pins necessary to make an ISA backplane board, although I'm not familiar enough to know for sure at a glance. But it probably depends on the BIOS whether it supports peripherals other than those specifically designed for it, so there's no guarantee if you built a backplane for it, that you could just start plugging in cards and they'll work without changes to the BIOS code.

It's called the "Eurocard Bus" (ECB) and is documented over at the retrobrew website. There are a variety of other ECB bus cards, though I don't know how many (if any) work with the SBC-188. Many are probably for Z80-based ECB cpu boards.

ahh eurocard. yea i know what you mean, I used to build ECB stuff all the time. I get confused between pc104 and ecb

Can you put a 186 in it?
@KyleJ617823 жыл бұрын
A 186 can't be used because the pin out is different than for the 188. The most significant difference is that the 188 only has an 8 bit data bus multiplexed with the low 8 address lines, but the 186 has a 16 bit data bus multiplexed with the low 16 address lines. Significant schematic and board layout changes would be required to accommodate it.

Can you get VGA output?

I ask you if you can answer, on sbc 188 it is also possible to mount CPU 80c188 ceramic version? Is it possible to also use CPUs with clocks other than 25mhz by changing the oscillator or do you also need other modifications?

How do I make a laptop with a sbc that runs Windows 10 and with cardboard thnx

You'll need to compile the resources in Visual Basic, then it will work!
