One of the few crafters of the hobby who hasn't been bitten by the 3D printing bug and still actually makes things. It's a good day when Wylock uploads a new video. 😁

Yes! 3dprinting and airbrushing is nice and all but I only have a small desk and paintbrushes to use 😅

I have love for both styles! There is a certain sense of pride when something is handmade, but requires skills (or wyloch KZbin hahha) to make. 3d printing opens up new options, but also requires some technical skills. Id feel a similar sense of pride if I managed to 3d sculpt and then print a city from scratch. Both would take forever. But I'll never forget building Skullport from cardboard, more than any other project I've done. Those handmade ones still stand out

I'm not even familiar with tabletop gaming, but I must say... That stone wall is impressive! Nice work...
@vurrunna Жыл бұрын
Love, love, _love_ these walls! They're an excellent mix of simplicity and realism, and with their massive size they feel properly imposing (as medieval city walls should). I also think dropping the street tiles was a good call; the unlimited modularity of a battlemat is much truer to the layouts in the game (you can see buildings at all sorts of angles in your screenshots), and the lawn additions add that essential pop of color to really bring it to life (I'll definitely have to make some of my own for my eventual Mordheim table). Kudos on the craft, and I look forward to more!

This makes me want to immediately gather my party and venture forth. The battle mat is a great call, I think, it looks a bit more convincing, especially with the added greenery. The acrylic base with bright green rims idea is a super goofy, incredibly fun idea. I kind of want to at least see if you can get that looking good on a single trial character, if not a whole party’s worth. This is such a great project to follow along with.

The olive darker stones would be perfect for a floor and the lighter would be great for the small walls for dungeon tiles

What i loved about the building and general art style from BG1 &2t was the right mix of medieval and fantasy architecture. Thats why it was believable and felt "right". I sometimes just checked the area because i loved the tiny details.

I love that this channel is still keeping the old ways alive. Foam, dry brushing, bricking etc That's mostly what got me into subbing to these channels and yet most are using really advanced and overly technical methods that aren't as fun to watch. I really am not a fan of inks and airbrushing at all. They look super good but it's just not fun to view. It's about seeing paint hit a model with a brush that makes it feel like something real is being done. Or bricks being placed one by one. Idk why it's just more gratifying than brick jigs and stuff. Or making food out of all kinds of objects other than printing them out. It's all becoming an ingenious lost art.

In the last video, I don't know if it was the angles, lighting, or what but I was not much a fan of the gradient windows. But seeing them again in this video I'm like "No, I was wrong, those windows look really awesome."

I watched this video last week and while I was resting an idea came to me, the storehouses on stilts may be raised granaries. The air circulation under the floor allows the grain to stay drier and makes it harder for vermin like mice and rats to infest the granary. The building may have a trapdoor in the floor and have hoists to raise and lower goods by block and tackle. It is even possible that wagons could be loaded and unloaded directly underneath the building.

Looking soo-purb. Well worth the hair-tearing. Presumably, anyone who wanted strips of battlements to sit on the outer face of the wall could hatch some without too much sweat. Some kind of periodic slot-over clips might be the way to hold them on (or just include crenellations in the original build).
@kreezerast Жыл бұрын
The olive-green skudge-dab turned out great. If you aren't worn out on the walls, you could strategically add some flocking to the bottom inch or two as well, along brick joints, although that sort of locks them in to a specific seasonal range...

For a lot of generic stonework, I've found that starting with a base coat of the applebarrel White, then letting it fully dry before using ink washes to go over it. Normally a black and brown along with some other colors (sparingly) while it's still wet. Then go with a trio of drybrushes (A warm offwhite, a cold offwhite, and then a very light one focused more on edges of a pure white). That white paint is something I only get for stonework because it's far to chalky for normal painting, but that same issue means that you can do something similar to leopard spotting techniques on them. For the basing idea, a friend of mine did the old Prodos AvP game in a similar way, though more of bases and basecoat in either black or a dark grey, then a bright neon drybrush over that (lighter on the mini) and for the rims of the bases. Looked a lot like some older RTS games unit profiles...

Yes, THIS time I found your newly-posted video before I received a notification of its posting! *watches video* I'm surprised you didn't go with a stone top on the walls, but maybe the wooden walk surfaces was more in keeping with the game you were inspired by. May I reiterate the comment about how you make things and not just 3D print.. there is a place for printing for sure but just watching you craft from scratch is unbelievably satisfying and I can easily spend a long lazy afternoon on a Sunday just watching and being entertained. That definitely would not happen watching a 3D printer!! And your videos are always inspiring. The castle walls are amazing and I am thinking about a LotR siege game. Many years ago I made some very basic castle walls and siege towers for my young son, now a fully grown man! I will revisit those happy days by making some better castle walls and a few new siege towers from balsa and coffee stirrers. My original design was lost many years ago and I have no visual record, no phone cameras back in the day!! But I do remember it had a platform that fell on top of the castle wall allowing troops 3 figures wide to fight onto the battlements.
