I build a prototype 1.0 moth lamp or bug chandelier pond fish feeder out of plexi glass, a light bulb as well as a version of a bug chopper made with a cheap electric fan.

The Ultimate Maggot Feeder: • Building the ULTIMATE ...
The light of the bulb attracts the fish, and the plexi glass confuses the bugs when they hit the glass and will then fall in the water. The fan is a quicker version which is designed to hit the insects and also drop them into the pond. Then the fish can get an easy meal.
There are commercial variety of these, but they can be very expensive. Lights like bug killer lights, or bug zappers, bug lights, fish lamps, moth lamps. Moth insects are strongly attracted to the glowing light produced by lamps and artificial lights.

The maggot feeder gave me an idea. During deer season when you get a buck and wanna keep the skull and antlers, just throw the head in the feeder and let the maggots clean it for you while also feeding your fish. Win-win.

I originally mentioned the idea of the light and baffles from my Grandfather. His was much more simple than the lantern. He had two sheets of plexiglass with a slot cut down the middle so they formed an ‘x’. The light bulb hung in the middle. His design allowed insects to fly in circles around the bulb, and they would collide with the plexiglass and drop into the water. Both of your designs are very nice, and lantern 2.0 sounds pretty cool too!

I have ants as "pets". Your mothlamp bug catcher is actually a really loved idea to get food for the ants without having to go to a petstore to buy bugs. There is one more way to "make" food yourself. Maybe you can use this idea. Mealworms. They reproduce pretty fast and only need oats, flour and maybe some old fruits. I heard they are very popular in the fishing community and you can usually get them in a petstore as food for reptiles. I got some to start off my own mealworm farm and it exploded to a point I had too many and couldn't feed them all to my ants. Maybe you already tried that but I just wanted to leave this idea here.

A couple of timers on your bug chopper to stop the chop and let them huddle at the light. Stage 2 turn on the chopper to get them as they try to leave when you kill the light. Two on delay timers would do the trick. After many years hand feeding BC mosquitoes, it would be nice to try and even the score. If you don't happen to have an automation electrician handy with boxes of timers and relays my wife might be married to someone who does.

The Artwork "Kept in the dark". The light represents people, the darkness represents the government and the box is the life they want you to live (Eat, work, sleep, die). The bugs represent pay cheques and the pond is the world. When your shine starts depleting, the less bugs you will get and when you finally go out, you've served your controlled purpose, they replace you with another bulb, only to serve the exact same purpose, never leaving the box. The light is your mind being kept in a box hanging over a pond in the dark that is being monitored to make sure you don't decide to become anything other then what they want you to be, a light bulb.
