Building competitive Italians for Bolt Action

Nice! Got a similar new Italian collection but with Autoprettos (3d printed), three M14/15s and heavy howitzer. Any way, have not played them enough to have any firm conclusions and ideas. I play all the infantry veteran and try and avoid small teams - the special rule is brutal and you don't want to give easy dice. This list would be in real trouble losing a sniper early any of the trucks or a regular squad. That is soft dice which you might be able to protect, but you also gotta do something at some stage that will get them shot at... All vet infantry does impact on your order dice for sure...but after about three games I have been competitive (1-1 and called draw, the loss was custom scenario by opponent with Kugelblitz, artillery gun line, AC ArmCar and one central objective - with firelanes to it - so - but it was close) and never went into my "special rule". I agree the two flamer Guastatori is a bit of a trap, but it is kinda what makes them cool - my Italians mostly for fun - and it does project considerably more fear / playing around. LOL, also often had the one guy miss in my games...(I play all vet 2 x Bersaglieri (7-8), 2 vet Guastori 2 FT 5man (will try just one because it is better), 2 Autoprettos (flamer teams), M15, AB41/L6 (or both with Juggernaut and no M15), med mortar (inexp / spotter) and 2nd lt - but it is mostly a all in flamer fun list. But ja, I wonder how many other competitive Italian players go with so many regulars , trucks and any small teams? Would be interesting to see some comments. They are not that bad if they did not have that awful national rules and even just allowing say Juggernaut rules make them a bit better, less vulnerable...but like you said, there is a reason nobody serious plays them in tourneys that matter...

thank you for more insight into list building. the "what can I build with the models I have" scenario is the first hurdle many of us need to overcome.

As a semi-competitive Italian player, I’d have to say, this list would be decent, if it weren’t Italian. With so many easy to kill units, the negative effect of Avanti will be triggered very quickly. Losing the flamethrower fiat group alone, could end up leaving the rest of army at -2 morale, after one unlucky ambush by the opponent. Unfortunately, the only “luck” I’ve had with Italians, centers around veteran heavy lists, tank platoons, or Western Desert theatre lists. I know that likely will result in lower dice count lists, but Italians can’t afford to lose order dice easily; or the rest of the game becomes much harder for them.

Bo, I've got Not Four Steps back in April using the Juggernaut selector. If you'd be interested in doing a part 2 but assuming you have access to any/all units to build the list I'll be happy to run it and see how 'we' do.
