"Learning" to fall and or bail is a skill that is very overlooked in skateboarding. Training your reflexes on what to do when a trick goes wrong will definitely go a long way. JB's lessons are always top notch.

JB’s lesson quality: Pro! Thanks for making this man. Been looking forward to strategic advice like this forever. Improving at skating is about learning to overcome mental blocks and safely try new things, not just learning flip tricks like tutorial videos over the past 20 years would lead you to believe. Worst injury I've ever had while skateboarding was when I was like 5 and I went off a curb and scraped my knee, even though it was a small injury I've been too scared to even try to skateboard not on smooth flat ground without any bumps because I can't take pain well. This helped me be able to go onto a not perfectly smooth sidewalk, thank you man

One more question about bailing by running forward: If my front foot is ~90 degrees to the riding direction when riding, and I hit a rock, crack, etc, and the board stops suddenly, and I attempt to bail by running forward, my front foot will be stuck on the grip tape with weight on it as I twist my upper body to try to run off with my back foot along the path of the board. How do I avoid causing a twist/sprain in that moment? I was rolling today, taking it easy because of my sprained ankle, and this exact thing happened due to a small rock. Do you try to anticipate these moments and keep the weight on your back foot so that the front foot has time to pivot before running off with the back foot? Or is it okey to ride with the front foot at a 45 degree angle, at least for now while my ankle heals, to avoid that big of a twist when you do have to bail? Thanks again for all your awesome videos!!
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
If I hit a crack or rock and my board stops, I don’t fight the momentum. Even if my foot is 90 degrees I’ll just stop suddenly but I’ll spin my chest forward and step over my front foot with my back foot and into a run out. 💙🛹💙
@torarnv2 жыл бұрын
Great video! One question though: If you get used to bailing out by knee-sliding, while practicing new/hard stuff, what do you do when you're then skating without knee pads (because you're not working on new material e.g.), but then suddenly you have to bail? Doesn't getting used to bailing with knee-pads mean you always need to wear them just in case? (nothing wrong with that, just wondering).
@torarnv2 жыл бұрын
What do you know, there's even a video for that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppSQkoiie5mifqM :D
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
Good question, when I was a teenager I felt like I always had knee pads on when I was at the skate park, but if I went street skating I wouldn’t wear them. I never had any problems with it bc you bail differently in transition. Street skating was more of a jump off, kick out, or tumble and transition was more relax and go with gravity into a knee slide. 💙🛹💙

I wish this video existed and I learned about bailing and knee sliding a little better before taking all those slams in concrete bowls 😅Falls hurt a lot more in your mid 30s, man bahaha
