to learn how to fall and get back up. everything is kung fu. knowing how to fall gets you grounded which gives you the confidence to try new things because you are already comfortable with the bail out because you have practiced it. epic video thank you brother!

A helmet's purpose is not to protect the brain, but to protect the skull so the brain stays there, but physics are physics and because your brain is floating in your head any hard hit or big momentum will make it crash into the wall of your skull, potentially causing a concussion. Maybe if the helmet breaks (theyre supposed to break btw) it can sort of take most of the impact, so your head doesnt stop suddenly

Some of the falls you just have to take and typically the more you control panic and relax the better you are. Freak accidents happen to everyone taking risk but this video helps especially when you intend to push yourself and try new things. 💙🛹💙

Good tips, but wearing pads and especially a helmet would be a wise thing to do, because when you slam it means you do not see it coming and often one just cannot control the energy of a fall at all, one could easily just be smashed into the ground with the head in front, without even having a chance to react because of the momentum and speed. Skate safe!

What would be your best tip to bail out of those rather surprising/unexpected flat-falls to the side (falling like a tree)?

Martijn from The Netherlands: I always go fully padded. However, my habit/reflex of breaking a backward fall/slam with my elbows is too much to deal with even for quality elbow pads. Result: swellbow and whiplash. So now i am following your guidelines, and forcing myself to train backward falls on flat. Hopefully it will pay off in transition. Another note: i must also learn to suppress the knee-slide reflex when falling backward: it resulted in landing full-weight plus extra "g" (drop-in into 9ft pool) on my foot under me, with stretched out ligaments and no skating for 7 weeks. Could have been even worse!

In the UK some of our skateparks are so rough, damaged with glass shards that I feel no matter how you bail it will hurt 😅

When turning during your bail avoid landing on your hip. Even though you don’t break anything soft tissue damage can lead to muscles not working and others in the group requiring to overcompensate….which causes further injury. As others have said, wear pads and a helmet!

man Im an old dad now but i want to skate again. when i was like 18 (10 years ago) i broke my ankle on a 10 stair wearing shoes not meant for skating. ever since then I havent skated. now i need to get in shape and relearn it all. thanks for the vids dude. any tips for a returning injured rookie?

Thanks Xander, Start small and build confidence and board control. It’ll come back so quick if you were able to Ollie over stairs even if it was years ago. 💙🛹💙

@@SkateparkLessons thanks bro! I will keep you updated. Getting a deck this weekend first time in ten years. Im from norcal too but in TX now. excited to see how it goes. Ollie over stairs and small flatground tricks and rails was about as far as I got with my progression back then. I'd love to take it farther though if possible

How do you fall when you land premo, then falling backwarts? I fear this the most because you cant really use your feet while falling.
@alemaorocker16 ай бұрын
You know, dude, a few months or years of martial arts may help with the roll because you train both sides and you learn how to use your abs and back muscles to "soften" the fall...

i pretty much dont do tricks as learnt as an adult. not often but when cruising something freakish happens like kicking the wheels. seems like a milisecond later i landed with my hands in front of me and have grazed the shit out of the palms 95% of the time i dont do anything foolish so i have general confidence and skate fairly fast. then when something goes wrong you feel it. any tips?
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
Spend more time skateboarding. This is a classic problem, also your wheels might be sticking out to far from trucks not matching the width of your board. 💙🛹💙

@@SkateparkLessons thanks for the reply, yeah was a cruiser where wheels stick out normally giver pretty hard lol... currently favoring OG retro big shaped boards so probably safer...

Do you practice these falls a lot before trying to land the trick?

No but try to go with the energy of the fall and into a slide to avoid impact

What about landing primo?
@SkateparkLessons2 жыл бұрын
Primo typically happens on flat ground so follow the instructions. There are always going to be instances when you fall without expectation. That’s what makes skateboarding gnarly. This is for how to fall when you are learning and expect a greater chance of risk. If you land primo and can’t use anything from my video to help you, you’re not going fast enough. 💙🛹💙
