That was a well thought out truss design and explanation of the build process. Well done 👍

what a fantastic video! I'm building my house, myself, and was just wondering how i was going to do my trusses. Now I know! THANKYOU!

Thank you! This is the hardest part in a way. Assembly is pretty straightforward but I’ll be going over that process in the next video. Good luck with yours! 👍

Just wondering if you could have just stuck with same size lumber on top cord and bottom cord. Instead of changing size. Of course still connect breaks with ply gussets. Did you break the sizes up because of money savings?

I did it based on engineer drawings for my snow load and for having an attic space upstairs. They’re probably overbuilt for a lot of areas.

I know that the truss should be built to support at least 30 lbs per square foot on the floor (or 40psf for living space) and the snow load on the roof, in addition to the dead load of the structure's material. I am wondering how to calculate the load on each connection point, of top and bottom chord members and web braces. How did you calculate how many nails are needed to resist the compression and shear forces? How do you know the plywood has enougn strength to carry the load? Can you help me with these calculations?

You are an incredible teacher! This is by far one of the best videos on construction and I have watched hundreds. Thank you so much for sharing! You mentioned that the usable space was 14 ft, is that your choice or was that determined by the requirements for loads, etc. Are you in a region with lots of snowfall?

Thank you so much, Nicole! I appreciate that. That was mostly determined by the width of the building that I went with, roof pitch and truss design. Yes I get lots of snow so that affects the design a lot too.

You are most welcome! I just discovered your channel and learned sooo much! If your width was 30' than would you increase your usable space to 16'? We had an engineer design some for us and he is only allowing for 10'? Our roof is 6:12 and we do get snow but not as much as you do.

Awesome glad to hear. Yes, so my current width is 32’ so I would probably have to increase to at least 36, to get it to 16’ in the attic space. That’s just a guess but especially if you’re going a lower pitch roof as well.
