In this new series, I will be researching the family trees of fellow youtubers and showing the process as I go along. This series will be a tutorial on how to do genealogy research while also highlighting the interesting ancestral history of your favorite youtubers. This second season will feature Mr. Beat, whose channel focuses on history, politics, geography, and other topics related to social studies. In the first few episodes of this season, I will be building Mr. Beat's family tree using only DNA.
This first episode will focus on reviewing top matches, identifying clusters, identifying the ancestors of each cluster, and creating a What Are The Odds (WATO) analysis.

This is what I'm currently working towards. Since it's so new you basically have to learn on your own, but I love it. It's like solving a puzzle. My goal is to bring the closure to families like I wish was brought to my own. I have a close family member who's been missing since 07.

I love that you are creating family trees for famous KZbinr AND using forensic and genetic genealogy. This is literally how criminal cases get solved. I'm so excited you are sharing this with people. These skills can be learned by almost anyone. I love all the cool details you shared about what kind of information you might or might not know while investigating Jane Doe's and John Doe's. I am excited to see more people learn these skills and see how it effects society in the future 😍🤓

Fascinating idea using only the DNA results to build the tree off of. We admit we got curious after what felt like a cliffhanger and were able to find the connection from Kaspar and Neppie to Mr. Beat, but really interested to see how you pieced it together, and if we used the same records! A fascinating way to do research, and fascinating to get such an in-depth look at how you you create trees from the DNA matches. Definitely going to be using dnapainter much more often, especially this what are the odds tool!

Thank you! Most of my grandmother 's ancestors form 2 distinct clusters. Assuming a sister was actually her mother, the nearer cluster - father- is one of the sons of a large family I've identified (with a family pic! & lots his remote cousins in my matches) The more remote lot - 3C, 4C etc - presents more of a challenge : 3 (of the 4) key families kept marrying each other, & one of those shows lots of pedigree collapse. (Do they keep jumping out at me!) I think I've identified one pair of grandparents, but.. I doubt if I'll ever be able to put my solution in a tree. The other gp would be....!! Thank you - you encourage me to keep at it!

Very nice, I love seeing how-to videos. I always learn something. Did you run an AutoTree for this matches? Pity that FTDNA doesn't provide shared cM between shared matches like MH/23andme/GEDmatch, otherwise AutoKinship could reconstruct some trees using only the DNA.

Who are even those people who get matches over 50 cM... :(((( I've never ever seen any people on GED or ancestry or myheritage have any ancestors in common with me, not even matching surnames in our family trees. And never ever I found any mentions of my ancestors in any online records or websites(at least up to 5 generations from me, that's how deep I managed to make my tree), how do people do it? I found the video useful nevertheless though, I'm looking forward for next episode! I try to pick up tips which are helpful to me, even though it has been very hard

Hey Jarrott, I could help you with that Liebst-Line. At least with the siblings. As luck would have it, a brother of Kaspar Erasmus Liebst, namely Ludwig Bonaparte Liebst married Theresa Hödl, who is my 3rd-Great Grandaunt 4th removed So if you want to trace it back and then looking at the siblings and their descendants (or other Liebst DNA Matches), I could help.

I will be updating a lot of the tree on Geni.com as I go along, so if you are connected into Geni please feel free to add anything that you have to the Liebst branch. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised to see there is already information on the Hödl family (Hoedl as I have found much of the American family likes to spell it).

I know this is random, but I took my dna test from Myheritage and got my results recently. I am... 31.7% Mesoamerican and Andean 1.7% Native American 23.4% Irish, Scottish and Wales 15.1% Scandinavian 7.7% East European 5.7% Italian 4.7% Greek and South Italian 3.7% Iberian 6.3% North African I know I'm basically half American and half European, but I wish it was more precise. I don't know what Mesoamerican and Andean even means? Basically, I'm Mexican. But which indigenous group in Mexico do I fall under? That's the question I have.

I'm not quite sure. And when you say participate, there are some cases where I will review reports which will then have genealogy research conducted by another team such as Parabon or Othram. My employer, DNA Labs International (DLI), has worked in conjunction with a lot of teams on a lot of cases because we are a certified lab for DNA extraction. Here is a link to a news article search which shows articles related to cases which DLI has been involved - www.google.com/search?q=%22DNA+Labs+International%22+genealogy&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS841US841&sxsrf=AOaemvLJRPkhXTpgwAp-8iMStc6Y5aBTUA:1631752857624&source=lnms&tbm=nws&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiB78GLoYLzAhWAMlkFHbNwDMgQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1680&bih=948

@@GeneaVlogger oh and btw, while I have your ear.... I'm sure you're probably aware of this but in our family on death records we often insist and put family members relationships by role played in ones life, out of respect. Like often Grandma's are actually Aunt's. And Aunts are actually cousins or 2nd cousins. When we buried my mom, the funeral home said, 'Ancestry isn't going to like that.' But we insisted. Do you find that often? Does it cause serious issues for folks in ur line of work? Edit: of course I mean you're aware of families doing this, not mine specifically! Lol 🤦🤦🤦
@GeneaVlogger
@GeneaVlogger 2 жыл бұрын
I actually am not familiar with this type of burial custom and it would make genealogy research much more difficult. There are some similarities to how some Dutch records I found will use the word for cousin in reference to an Aunt/Uncle. So do you mean that the death certificate doesn't list the actual parent's names? I'm not familiar of any common death records which list grandparents or extended family members, although it wouldn't surprise me that there are some out there. Do you know if this is a custom specific to a type of ancestry, religion, or region?
