I built a truncated A-frame years ago. The sides were 22 feet high and at 67 degrees. It gave us much more headroom inside. The eight foot wide top looked flat but actually had a 1" rise at the center. I also made a five foot overhang on each end like a flying gable.
@joshbolton27113 жыл бұрын
I think as many have said, the knee wall idea would be smart. It would provide more space for comfort (bed, chair, desk) so that when you're using the cabin it's more functional. Otherwise the cabin has to have most furniture along the central line of the cabin and it won't be nearly as functional. The glass panels will look really cool though. Great way to watch what's happening around the forest.

I am 100% for a knee wall to get a bit more usable space. And I honestly think it will still look really cool. Hey, greenhouse plans, I'm excited about that, even if it only came up in the abstract. I saw some interesting discussions recently about how to create enough thermal mass to keep the greenhouse going through the winter (stuff like having barrels of water painted dark in a part of the structure, to allow them to soak up enough heat during sunlight hours to keep the place from falling below freezing while dark - but it's possible you're far enough north not to get enough sunlight to make something like that work). Just... Science is cool, and the brilliant solutions people are able to come up with to solve all sorts of problems are amazing, and seeing you being okay with figuring things out as you go along helps me feel better about trying things without having all the details worked out in advanced, which is helping me feel better about trying new things too. So. Thanks man.

Great work again, guys. We do not have any cedar here so it must be totally different from our species. We have mostly pinewood, firtree and birch and they do not stand much in the ground as such. Earlier they were burnt a little on the ground-going part or, even better, painted with tar, to preserve. Now people use pressure-treated wood which is very durable in ground but may leave some traces of poison to the ground.

For the burning the Ends of the posts. You only do that if they arent Cedar or other Bug resisting type of Tree or already Treated Posts. Usually burning the end if they are like Oak birch, poplar posts. Again its Not the whole Post you would burn, just the part that makes contact with the ground. One thing you can do is take the wood ash and put it down into the hole. and as your filling in the whole or mix it in to the dirt which would be better and put the ash/dirt mix around the post. Wood ash deters insects(Most Insects. Like Termites and ants) but can also deter some animals. like Snakes.
