Our own building code inspectors take you on a tour of a new home and explain some of the codes they enforce, and why they are important. Meanwhile, text emerges on-screen that is occasionally informative, but usually odd.

Great video. Impressed you use the IDEAL Electrical 61-164 Sure-Test Circuit analyzer, which has the capability to detect a bootleg ground. Both InterNACHI certified and many municipal inspectors appear to resist resolving this due to their aversion to liability and risk of litigation. Search for "bootleg ground" to learn more.

I was browsing through the videos and saw him with the Sure-Test and had to watch it too. I have one and have found many bootleg grounds and even found that the bonding screw in one panel was installed poorly as it would jump between having a ground and no ground. The previous contractor decided to separate the grounds and neutrals on a main panel for some reason.

Wonder if they checked to see if the outlets were tightly secured bc if they’re loose the wires will eventually come undone and become a hazard.

Fuck cfl lights. Dangerous. I've replaced several that weren't blown but had black tint in the base from getting hot. Led or incandescent is the way to go.

no mention of the stupid doorstop design on the entrance door. Had that in my old house. Works like a crowbar on the hinge to pry it off the frame! ...love the exterior disconnect. Shut down a loud party next door by tripping it! In the past, we had to pull the meter and hide it til morning.

0:38 who locks a key dead bolt while there home you lock them when your out. you lock thumb latches ex while your home. Thumb latch's are only for when your home and inside...and a door with windows like that needs and extra lock i cant reach in and open. Thumb latch's are great for when your home but when your not and you dont have a solid wood door is asinine. that door is not secure unless you get a security system and that dose not stop brake-ins it just call the cops after it happens. Used a double key dead bolt 24 years never have i bin locked in house ever because im not stupid and only use it while im OUT. But i am NOT ALOUD TO HAVE IT! thanks to people like you.

Well, there are reasons why. For electrical, the codes are there to prevent fires and shock. For the frame, you need to be sure that it will be able to hold the weight of both the users and any things they want to add. While I agree that over regulation is bad, for things like this, if it's got a good reason, it's not bad.

Bukk the Left You have a point, the code allows burglar bars and only requires the ability to open them from the inside of the dwelling for the specific egress windows. Can be rough in a panic, nobody knows until their faced with it. Till then it’s just foolish talk.
