8Blit - ATARI 2600 Game Programming

Күн бұрын

In this episode we explore using kernels to draw our playfields, graphics, backgrounds, etc. We cover what types of kernels there are, multi-scanline kernels, and using multi-kernels in the same frame. We'll do a break down of the kernels used in the classic game Pitfall, and as always, sample code for the episode is available in our github. Learn to program games for the Atari 2600!

8blit is a personal project to learn about programming games for the ATARI 2600 and teaching others along the way. The examples provided with each episode are always available on our GITHUB page. The examples are written in Assembly Language, for the dasm compiler. All examples have been tested using the Stella Emulator.

Took so long to get this done! Between this one and the last all my appliances failed one after the other and I had the silly idea that I could fix them myself. Just one more to go! Thank for the comment and support!

lol, you have the most ok boomer (after all, it goes Boomer to millenial, right?) intro, but it's like, in a *good* way. I'm really glad the algo served this to me, so I'm commenting to help serve it to other people. It's really interesting stuff, and I hope you continue. I'm interested to see how you develop and come up with more content. For someone who's this new to it, you obviously have a decent amount of production background, so I can't wait to see how you do once you find a groove to get into with the channel.

We-el, it kinda' goes, " Boomer ", " Gen X ", then millenial. But I rock your sentiment. 8Blit is a great channel with a great host, I'd appreciate more content, shorts ( only due to KZbin regs ), and livestreams. I think this channel will completely blow up if this channel gets in touch with ex-Activision and Atari employees. I'd really love to hear this host give his synopsis of " Atari Inc. Business is Fun " by Marty Goldberg and Curt Vendel.

ah, noted! I do have something planned to do an interview with a couple of employee's from a small company in the 80's that produced a single game in my hometown, but that's a bit in the future!

Thanks for the comment, that's pretty much the aesthetic I was going for. It certainly helps with me being so awkward in front of the camera. lol!

@@8Blit I'm watching some of your older stuff - you're definitely getting more comfortable, and I'm really interested to see where you're at a few months from now - you clearly come from a production background, and everything is really well done. It's some of the best edited retro content I've found on here.
