I designed and built this boat for a friend. It’s quite angular and uses folded parts to save on welding. There are things I would change in the construction but I like the overall design. It’s very different from my normal designs so it was great fun to do and I look forward to the sea trials.
I only started learning the 3D half way through the build so I had a model from before.
Ps I’m not a naval architect. I have learned through trial and experience over many years. I’m time served coded welder who likes to draw. Thanks for watching.

Hi , That is a Good looking Hull, I Worked on Maui Fishing, Diving, Sailing Boats from 13, had enough Sea Time, Got my Captain Lic by 18 and Ran Daily Charters on Maui for some 25 years,in Every Kind of Vessel. I have Skippered 6 pack dive boats, 49 pack Snorkeling , and Sailing Vessels . The 20' to 25' foot Trailer Boat, to me is the All around Great Size for the Normal Family Man. Where money is a Real Concern but also Performance. Yes I want Everything for the best price. I love your Hull lines, Cabin , if you have a Self Bailing Foam Filled Deck, and made to Take a Severe Beating That is a huge Plus. Take a look at the American made 20 to 25 foot, Radon, Davis, Skipjack, Grady White, Sea Craft, Boston Whaler, Bertram's. Thanks again Aloha Ben A

I believe in the late 1970s, German Shipyard Blohm+Voss planned a series of "no curves" general cargo ships. Their idea was to get the building cost down in a market under competitive pressure. Though apparently model tests showed the design was fine, operators never bought into the idea. And then, Japanese shipyards at much lower operating costs were already ramping up to take the cargo shipbuilding business anyway. So - curious to hear how your "no curves" hull handles, compared to a classical design.

Very interesting, seems to be the way with ship building. Soon as a country gets good at it, it moves to a cheaper one and we start again. The owner is fitting the boat out at his home and hopes we can test her this summer (2023). I will post a video soon as I can. I had just drawn this up for fun and he asked if I could build it! Cheers 🍻

Thank you for many informative videos. I wonder if this folded design is still feasible for a 30 ft catamaran. Thx.

Defiantly could. Im starting to learn Rhino CAD so im hoping to learn more about developing surfaces in cad to make better more comprehensive cut files.

I’m designing a small aluminum boat (my first, a 10’ lake boat), and learned a ton about structural design from this video, to the point that I tore out everything I had for a frame and re-did it (quickly, because the method provided here was so much easier than trying to lay out 25 mm box tubing in SketchUp). I got far enough in my design draft that I was able to calculate the total area of the various sheet metal thicknesses, and from that derive a hull weight. It came in somewhat heavier than I’d hoped, so I need to figure out how thin I can go and still maintain structural integrity. What thickness of material did you use for the keel? The ribs? The hull? The deck? Thanks for whatever you an tell me. Nice boat designs, by the way. I’m inspired.

Hi, this boat was all 5mm but for 10ft I would use 4mm and have no floor normally. I have a Facebook page with pictures going back a long way and there are a few pictures of 10ft boats on there. If you definitely want a floor then 3mm is good and easy to form. You could cut holes in panels like aircraft wings to combats weight maybe. Thanks for your kind comments. I’m self taught and my first boat was a simple 10ft build as well. Soon as I launched it I was hooked !
