Great video. I just bought a kit today, EXTRAS...I ordered a heavy duty chain, a dual brake lever, some Loctite and a spring loaded chain adjuster. I would only use ethanol free gas and synthetic 2 stroke oil. On somebody else's video they recommend pouring oil down the spark plug to pre- lube the cylinder. Let it sit and then turn it upside down to drain out. I haven't got any of the parts yet...... but that is my recommendation after watching tons of videos on the subject. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BUILDS!!

The Rubber disc that sandwich the spokes are actually not made from old tires, they are made from Scrap Conveyor Belt. Like the conveyors in rock quarry's that carry rock. You can tell from the "plys" in the belting.
@johncuzzourt21186 жыл бұрын
It's the same material used in "rag joints" on steering columns. Called a rag joint because you can see the fibers around the cut edges. Rag joints make a simple "universal joint" without bearings. This is very tough stuff. Sandwiching spokes in it to attach a sprocket is a clever adaptation.

Thank you for the vid. I'm still in the research phase, learning about all this... I haven't actually purchased or built anything yet. But, I wanted to comment about the "break in phase". Reading all these comments it hit, how & why it works. Ever "season" a frying pan? It involves taking a new pan, and heating it up with fresh oil in it. The heat causes the pores of the pan to expand, letting oil down inside. It also causes the oil to "carmelize", solidifying into a coating very much like a hard plastic. Obviously, something very similar happens inside the engine during break in. I've read a few people pooh-pooh'ing the break in phase, saying it's really not needed. I don't believe it.
@LordOfSilense6 жыл бұрын
It's the same reason why cars, motorcycles, and scooters all have a break-in. The break-in period is more about properly wearing the piston (thing that pushes the gas to compress) and the cylinder (the thing the piston slides up and down in) so that they are worn "together" (so that their grooves/wear patterns match). This is important because during this time you tend to have fine metal shavings (that wear off both parts of both as they are first used). The better you wear your parts together (don't stress them too much, don't use them in low-load situations, don't run them super lean w/out oil) the better fit you get. And the better fit you get between the piston and the cylinder the more horsepower you get. More horsepower means, well, more power.
@ericellquist70074 жыл бұрын
You said at the beginning that you would have preferred a black painted engine. If the one you have is not painted, in other words there is no silver "coating" on the head and cylinder the engine will shed heat easier and run a lot cooler. If possible, I would always prefer raw metal on the engine instead of some kind of coating. Even chrome will tend to hold heat. Aluminum is a very efficient heat exchange metal, and is used in electronics for that purpose.

Pac-Man washer? Metal bee? Interesting! And the ‘ferrule’ on the spark plug is for ‘push fit’ spark plug connectors... (these have RF suppression to stop the high tension voltage required to induce the spark, from causing radio interference) remove the ferrule for the older ‘tab’ style connector, using the threaded ferrule as a nut to hold the tab connector on the end of the spark plug... but ideally replace the older style connectors with suppression style (not applicable for this build - already supplied) Thanks for showing all the steps and for posting this very informative video... including the corrections that you could’ve edited out but didn’t, showing that mistakes can be corrected. The modifications to the mounting bracket also shows how it’s possible to troubleshoot issues! Cheers!

Hm. That's interesting. I also have a full colour assembly guide and it says the concavity of the sprocket disc is inward towards the spokes "this helps keep the chain closer to the inside of the wheel". Your chain would be running further from the interior (mid line) of your wheel if the sprocket disc was fitted the way you're showing it. Having the chain running as close as possible to the spokes reduces wheel-twisting torque.

Great video! I put a 50cc kit on a nice mountain bike somebody left at the local dump. It's been great so far. I'm wondering if you ever found a solution for the brake on the left. I just put both on together. I need to keep in mind the top one is the clutch but it became second nature after a short time. I've never seen a 2 stroke engine that requires so much oil. Normally they are 40:1 or even 50:1. One of the comments from a viewer said 16:1 and 20:1 is too much and may even blow the head gasket. Have you heard any more about fuel/oil ratios? The only thing I can figure is that they are relatively crudely built engines out of sub standard materials and might seize up with less oil.

@ 8:30 - on eBay and many parts venders, they sell half links so you can make your chain fit very close to the proper length also it's best to make the chain as close to the proper length as possible and let the chain dictate where the idler wheel is mounted and don't just mount it close to the sprocket because that's what you see done all the time - the closer it is to the engine the less stressed it will be, it will run smoother and give you a tiny tiny tiny bit more speed -@11:15 - On my bikes I just grind off the stud and drill a small hole through the throttle clamp where the stud used to be and line it up on the handle bars where I want it and then I drill a hole into the bars through the hole I drilled in the throttle assembly and screw it in place. That way you can't bump your throttle handle and brake the stud off when you're 10 miles from a screwdriver and the entire assembly twists as you attempt to ride ;)
@davidwheaton52066 жыл бұрын

@archer72126 жыл бұрын
@@jonsmith2217 - the throttle assembly has 2 half's that screw together around the handle bar and hold the tube for the twist grip. The lower half has the kill switch and the upper half is just the other half of the clam. On the inner part of the upper there's a small plastic pin, I remove the pin and drill a hole in the place of it through that portion of the clamp. After installing the complete throttle assembly on to the bar and being sure that it fits and I like the position of the kill switch and the throttle works freely I tighten it in place. Now, at this point when you're looking at the throttle assembly you should have a hole in the upper part of the clamp between the two crews that hold the assembly together, take a small drill bit and drill a hole into the bar - just the top layer - one side of the tube - now you should have a hole through the clamp and one side of the bar tube, find a small sheet metal screw and screw it into the bar fastenings it in place. - BTW - I am Mksy9

Hey! So I got the engine working. Now are two questions: There's a nut I can adjust with a screwdriver, and it spins in, and out. I've figured out, if I spin it in the speed will be slower if I don't push the throttle. Does this also slow down the speed of the engine if I do max throttle, and does it do anything bad to the engine? I've almost fully screwed it in. What does it control? Fuel flow? The second question: On the black part of the carburettor, there's a metal piece, wich you can move up and down. If I move it up fully, the engine stops. If fully down, the engine is revving hard, and is very loud. What does that control? Thanks!

What did you end up doing with the front brake lever?
@Steve_Does_Stuff Жыл бұрын
I bought a dual brake lever. This 1 lever allows me to operate both the front and rear brakes at the same time. I have a video about that brake lever: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moPYZYismq9gh9E

Look at the tube, it is a brass filter. It can clog, just clean. They us two filters. Rust in tanks, the more the better. Some times it leaks without the filter. I look at mine with a magnified glass, you see screen.

Can you flip the header around to make the spark plug face the front of the bike ?

Also just smack from in til strong mount fits way better mounting without all that universal hardware.

Where is the ball bearing replacement in the clutch?

Had to buy an air intake extension in order to fit the carburetor on the engine. Just not enough room on the frame.
