Always enjoy seeing your updates, Hank. If your engine is a 3GM, it should be around 55 hp or so. 21X19 is a pretty big wheel but it should be fine at the speeds you're talking about. I service a couple 21' Ranger tugs that use that engine. They are a displacement hull with quite a bit of wetted area for their waterline and cruises at an honest 7kn, though it's with a smaller prop (about 13X15 if memory serves), so if you can get the flow dialed in, power shouldn't be a problem. You'll obviously lose a bit to the alternators charging the big battery bank. I've got another customer with one in a 48' sailboat and gets similar speeds out of it, though it takes him a lot longer to get there ! That prop seal looks pretty skookum as well. In outboard gearcases even up to 300hp, they typically just use a double lip seal on the prop shaft and it seems to work fine. Mercury SAE90 gear oil (858064K01 or Q01) is great for that application. Thanks, my engine is a non-turbo 3 cylinder and is 30 hp. I was wrong, my prop is 19 diameter and 16 degree. My memory is off lol.

Understood that it is uncertain as to the rate of motion your sub will achieve with the 3 cylinder and prop, I wonder what your target max rate of motion is for the submarine or if you have one? Thanks for your posts!

I would like to hit 5 to 7 mph. I think it will based on comparisons with another small diesel sub.
